I think the guest number doesn't update to the actual number of them seeing this thread right now but instead the number that have viewed this thread recently. thats why you can see other members names when they haven't be here for quite a bit of time

I remember that during that time, the availability of caller id also depended on the type of line that the caller had. I was secretly mad at some friends for not having upgraded yet such that I could tell it was them who called being the control freak that I am. Maybe I also knew it was that friend because he stood out by not having caller id shown yet. I don't remember though...

Do you still have a landline? I don't know about where you are but here are so many people are ditching them because they have cell phones. We kept ours because there is at least a few people who will only call that number.

When I lived with my mother we had a landline. Its main use was to call our phones when we forgot where we put them.
