I've been pondering these days about body modifications, and I couldn't help but wonder how people find it odd to make cuts or engage in similar actions purely for aesthetic reasons. It struck me: 'Why does society view enduring a continuous 5-hour needle piercing as normal, yet frowns upon a deliberately shaped burn?' What are your thoughts on this?

I've thought about this, too. I was looking into scarification for a little while--it is a thing you can get "professionally" done, although it seems like practitioners are far and few between.

Related: I've noticed that some BDSM practices have become quite normalized, while self-harm remains taboo. It's funny what a sexual context can redeem.
