Traditions and celebrations facilitate social bonding among the individuals of a group and promotes social cohesion. Even when it comes to holidays that are tied to the events that happen each year (e.g. summer solstice), the decision to celebrate those is still arbitrary. Holidays don't need to make sense, that's not their purpose. Birthdays, wedding anniversaries, baby showers and things like that fall under that category too
Birthdays are not just cringe for me; they're insults.
Insult by celebrating the day I materialized in this cruel existence out of the many chances that it could have been others, only for them to not give a fuck after 24 hours. Actually, they'll give a fuck no more after greeting me a happy birthday.
I only permit the closest people in my life (i.e. my closest friends) to greet me, that is they remember lol.
