my mom loved her dogs so much, and it was devastating for her when they eventually died.. mom is dead now, but her last dog was named Grace and lived exactly 10 years, but when Grace died my mom lost it and couldn't stop crying but also she couldn't stand being alone..... so she forced me to go over to her place and stay with her for like 2 weeks.. it really is losing a family member..
when her previous dog would die, she would tell it to be reincarnated in to the next dog she was going to look for.. she would grieve for a few months or so and she also didn't want to get a new dog too soon because she didn't want the other dog (that just passed) to think that the new dog was a replacement.. i think the dog's spirit understands that though.. but eventually the emptyness feels too empty and she would eventually get a new dog (and hoping the dog reincarnated as that dog (she probably didn't super actually believe it was really reincarnated as the next dog she picked out, but a person can hope)).. she always made sure to get a breed that doesn't shed, and i was glad for that.. i've been to people's houses that have a shedding dog and holy cow there is always dog hair every where and when i pet their dog my hand smells like complete dander..
you can put some pictures of Sugar on your wall or make a little shrine or what ever you want to do if that helps..
can i say one more thing?.. i wasn't going to say this but it might help some people maybe..... honestly my mom, even though she loved her dogs more than any thing, she didn't feed them very well.... they never ate normal dog food.. ever...... She constantly fed them ham, turkey, sausages, and some times the wet dog food packages..... basically nothing but meat constantly.... that was 99% of their entire diet.. she thought she was being nice to them by feeding them normal meat like that meant for humans, but it ended up causing the dogs to have lots of tumors and they died early and could have lived longer if she would have fed them actual healthy normal dog food.. when i would try to get her to change their diet she would get defensive about it and she thought giving them normal dog food was some how cruel.. We got an ultrasound for one of her dogs (named Katy) once and it had tumors every where in its body, and also had some huge giant fatty blob hanging down from the back of its stomach area.. and then the other dog (Grace) had a big tumor on its back that mom had removed at the vet, and we didn't give Grace an ultrasound but i'm sure if we had then it would have looked similar to Katy where there are tumors every where and not just growing only on her back.. so that's just one thing to be wary of when you get a new dog: make sure it is eating normal healthy dog food most of the time.. obviously you don't have to get the cheapest dog food possible or any thing, but actual tons of meat meant for humans doesn't really end up doing them many favors in the long-run..
and this is just my personal belief but, i don't believe in karma, and so i don't think this was the cause of any thing wrong or bad that you did.. some dogs live slightly longer than that some times but 10 is definitely not a young age for a dog..
i'm glad that you talked about and put Sugar up here on the site so that some other people could have the chance to see and know her a little bit..
Sugar still loves you and is with you and you will see her again some day at the rainbow bridge..
Love and light..
