For me that "something really stupid" is people wearing shorts. Specifically, above the knee shorts, and exposed thighs. On both men and women. On Reddit I have been banned from several sub-reddits for repeatedly posting about shorts, but little did the sub moderators know I wasn't doing it to be annoying, I am just really passionate about shorts and don't know why. Their reasons for banning me all ranged from a variety of ways of saying "posting the same thing over and over again isn't cool." But it's just a stupid obsession I have.

It's sort of a sexual fetish thing and sort of not at the same time. Strangely enough I am not enticed by naked people or porn, but I am enticed by people still clothed but showing skin otherwise. Like in shorts, where the legs/thighs are exposed. I'm not exactly sure if I'm asexual or demi-sexual due to this, but yeah.

It's a pretty pathetic thing, and if the sub-reddit bans have shown me anything it's that people aren't interested in hearing about my shorts obsession. But it's something I struggle with. Just something that makes me feel useless and pathetic, because it's such a silly problem that doesn't make much sense.

I posted this in offtopic because it's where it most belongs. I wouldn't post it in the same place someone might be talking about their last day on Earth. It's such a stupid problem, from my messed up brain. But yeah. I've struggled with this, and it made me insecure.

I have an unfortunate repertoire of nasty paraphilias myself while not enjoying sex at all. I entirely get what you mean! It's not exactly a fetish for me, but when men are in shorts especially with big legs, I can't help but salivate! šŸ¤¤

Hmm...not particularly traumatic that I remember, but in middle school, where if I recall correctly this shorts obsession began, they had a rule of "above the knee shorts are gay," which made me feel like I was indecently flashing people with my lower thighs in my slightly above the knee shorts, and made me obsess over my shorts length. My parents weren't gonna buy me new below the knee shorts, but I pulled my shorts down whenever they rode up to prevent anymore thigh from showing. I was like 13 or 14 when this happened.

And somehow I guess this became an obsession. Not being "allowed" or being considered "gay" for wearing above the knee shorts made me wanna wear even shorter shorts, since I wasn't "supposed" to wear shorter shorts. Not sure if any of this makes sense, but yeah.

Ah. I'm so glad you posted this, actually! It shows me I'm not alone in my "weird obsession." Except for me it applies for both men and women, since I consider myself to be bisexual or pansexual. But yes, I can't help but salivate whenever I see a nice man or woman in shorts. Especially when they have big or thick thighs, or "tree trunk thighs" as I've seen it referred to as. Haha.

Ah yes, when boys going through puberty and sex education at the same time determined that shorts that were deemed to short and you be called gay. I went through that phase where I asked my mom to buy me shorts that hang above the knee or lower, and when they didn't I started sagging. Eventually schools instituted a uniform policy and we all wore khaki pants. There were a lot of fashion tropes that stereotype certain groups and still do today.

Have you tried posting in /r/unpopularopinion ?

Yup, that's basically what it was. A boys going through puberty and sex education at the same time sort of thing, lol. And ah, so I see you also went through something similar that I did. Glad I wasn't alone in having experienced this. For a while I actually only wore pants because of not wanting to deal with the whole shorts thing. Though these days I wear shorts well above my knees proudly, not caring how much thigh is exposed as I sit and they ride up or whatever, lol.

I actually did try posting on /r/unpopularopinion before. I don't remember if I was banned from that sub-reddit specifically or not, but I think I did also get the warning of posting the same thing too many times. I did have some people agree with me that short shorts look better, but yeah...I don't think they wanted me to post about shorts anymore on their sub, lol. I went overboard.
