All of us here know that assisted dying helps people who are suffering pass away peacefully and painlessly, but something that is almost never talked about is how it also dramatically reduces the pain felt by loved ones left behind.
Families and friends are often traumatized when someone dies from suicide, often because of how sudden it was and that they weren't given the chance to say goodbye. By legalizing assisted dying, people can spend time with their loved ones before they pass away peacefully. They are given the time to process what will happen; they can speak with professionals to help come to terms with it and make beautiful last memories.
Instead of suicides being done in secret, lonely and violent with high risks and pain, assisted dying allows a person to peacefully pass away surrounded by their loved ones. No one ever has to be notified by the authorities that a friend or family member has died from suicide, or worse, finding the body themselves. Without assisted dying, everyone needlessly suffers so much more. The people who die from suicide and the people left behind.
