Title. I'll start with something silly.
I have borderline personality disorder. And I don't always notice when I'm having a terrible mood or overly intense emotional reactions. I use Tekken 8 and other competitive games to track it.
Literally yesterday, I was raging really hard at the game, even though I was destroying my opponent and reading them completely. I won matches using only grabs. But I was still unbelievably angry:
WHY DOES HE KEEP DOING THE SAME THING OVER AND OVER, I'M LANDING 6 GRABS IN A ROW!?! WHY DOESN'T HE RESPECT ME BECAUSE OF THESE MOVES? MR. ANDERSON, WHY DO YOU KEEP GOING...
Sometimes I get a little crazy. Thankfully, I never take it out on people IRL.
When I have too much coffee or tea, I boil some water, but I just pour myself a cup of plain water and drink it warm. At least that way I don't keep drinking caffeine late at night.
When I was studying the philosophy of Hume, Wittgenstein, and Socrates, I started thinking about how language works and about certain unusual words in it.
One thing I've been thinking about is that some words don't really have much meaning, yet they can seriously harm my mental state.
I try to remove them from my vocabulary and ignore them when other people use them. They often reveal more about the person using them than they do about reality. And they're not actually universal concepts — they're often something very specific to a particular person. These words are extremely broad, and when you really think about them, they often don't mean much at all.
Words like: everyone, men, women, all M/F, the world, the whole world, justice, the best, the worst, pathetic, equality.
A small thought that helps me slightly change my perspective on the world: there are several billion people in the world, but I form — or rather maintain — my worldview with the help of only a few dozen people.
So what do you think? Do you use anything like this? >_<
