i've enjoyed jirai kei fashion & used the term landmine girl (jirai onna) for myself for over a year now and was curious if there's anyone else on this site who likes the fashion and is in the subculture. I also consider myself menhera & have participated in the subculture long before I was in the jirai one!

Jirai Kei is a subculture with the term "jirai kei" translating to landmine woman. It's a slang term typically used to refer to women who look cute but who are "a ticking time bomb". Its a derogatory term and is usually thrown at women who happen to be mentally unstable, especially those who suffer from BPD. The subculture is actually pretty controversial as some argue that ends up romanticizing mental illness and trauma, unlike yami kawaii (translates to "sick cute"), which originated from the mental health subculture of menhera and was specifically created as a way for mentally ill people to cope with their struggles and express themselves, while also challenging the stigma surrounding mental health in Japan.

Isnt "kei" refer to type? What is the problem for romanticizing mental illness? I thought people get mad at it because it somehow allow the indulgence of not getting therapy and keeping their act from borderline personality disorder?
I thought jirai kei this term is usually used to refer just a fashion type and it is sometimes occasionally refer to a personality of mentally ill person, as many people dress like jirai kei and they are not mentally ill. Though I have no clue about what is their sub culture.

Meanwhile how do you attract jirai kei? At least I have never met one in my life and I never met people who is more jirai than me (for the mentally ill part, not the fashion part).
