  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

If so, can you share any stories about your struggle with this condition?

I'm sorry couldn't help but chuckle a bit at the question. A core trait is the denial of one's own narcissism. So wouldn't expect a lot of replies.

I massively applaud anyone with it who is able to recognize, admit the problems and attempt to change. And feel for them. My dad has NPD. His life is a nightmare as is those around him.

not NPD, but I do have a formal cluster b dx. the stigma and shame are incomprehensible to anyone without the lived experience of being the person with the disorder. the idea that those around us deserve more resources than we do ourselves to cope with how our minds operate is infuriating. society and the world of medicine makes their feelings on our inherent lack of value to them very clear and yes, it does feel awful.

i believe i may have it. i only came to this conclusion because i'm an underachiever, which means anything and anyone bruises my inflated ego.

I'm sorry you suffer with those thoughts and reactions. I wouldn't self-diagnose based on that information alone.

Maybe try out some of the online personality tests to help you confirm one way or the other?

I have BPD and often have questioned whether I have NPD or not, all therapists I've had have said I definitely don't but I think there is some overlap between the two disorders anyway

While I only have schizophrenia and OCD, my biological father was eventually diagnosed with NPD and anti-social personality disorder after he abandoned us.

I don't think he's really ever struggled with any of it, because (according to my psychiatrist anyway) it really rare for NPD+ASPD to have much insight into their condition. He works in finance still despite embezzling hundreds of thousands that we know about. When we didn't suit him anymore because it would expose his cheating and eventual HIV, he bailed and just started a new life that was all about him. He blames everyone but himself for everything and will do anything to get what he wants, regardless of how it effects others. Classic sociopath.

Despite all of the awful shit he has done however, I acknowledge he is sick and normal people would never choose to live like him. I will and can never forgive him, but I do believe it is an illness, not a wanton thing they could stop on a dime

There are probably some covert narcissists among us. Covert narcissists may become depressed/suicidal due to feeling as if life and people did them dirty. That's not to say that anyone who doesn't take personal accountability is a narcissist—that's just one of the many attitudes a covert narcissist would have. Peace and love :halo:

AvPD here, I also relate strongly to many features of covert narcissism.
Believing the symptoms (and the pain with them) will never go away is one of the reasons I'd like to leave

I find hard that a real NPD realizes they are NPD, but I guess it happens

One of my long time friends ended up developing a narcissistic disorder of some sort and I hated to see him like this. He just go so self absorbed into his delusions. I hope you find peace.

I am very strongly suspect that I have vulnerable NPD. Since being self aware I became even more hopeless. I can't feel affective empathy and there's no way to develop it as far as I did my research. I can't have real fun, my positive spectrum of emotions is extremely limited. I can only make myself less toxic for someone who loves me.
My most recent relationships with person with BPD fell apart very quickly because they triggered my narcissistic injury constantly.
I am doomed to not being fully human and I don't want to live like that.
