Over the past year I've been thinking more and more that the majority of people are needlessly cruel or mean.
It could partially be in light of recent political events but it goes a little beyond that for me. I'm a firm believer that it's never okay to criticize how someone looks and I've never really noticed how much the average person looks at/critiques that sort of thing; it's especially difficult when my friends are commenting on someone else. Heavily on social media as well, if anyone has a slightly unconventional feature people fill the comments with hate. I understand that it's probably because social media is kind of an atmosphere of negativity so I shouldn't be using it to justify my stance. But I also work at a state park and the amount of people who just litter is pretty surprising. I believe this line of thinking comes from me growing up around a lot of religious people who tended to say one thing and then spout hatred about whatever group immediately afterwards (I understand not all religious people are like this, I have a lot of religious friends). Honestly just want to know if anyone else struggles with this belief and what are the reasons that have led to it, especially since it's a significant contribution to my depressive thoughts. Sorry for the vent lol.

I agree that the average person can be quite malicious and fairly limited in their thinking. I think most normies live according to a set of random, average assumptions and values that happen to work for them, and they react very aggressively to anything outside that framework — because it's simply more comfortable that way. People often believe in and are guided by ideas that are largely fabricated, pseudo-rational, and rooted in magical thinking

It also seems to me that many normie lack the empathy and imagination needed to put themselves in someone else's shoes.

I'm constantly surprised when people I know say something unexpectedly cruel and completely unfounded. One of my friends started calling another friend of mine a "cuck" simply because he got a girlfriend. He literally says it every time the guy comes up in conversation. Or take an acquaintance of mine who's a pentecostal: he can spend several minutes talking about how god helps him, how deeply devoted he is to his faith, and how important it is to help other people — and then, just a few minutes later, launch into a hateful rant about homeless people and those who have died by suicide. The contrast is astonishing.

If hell exists, then most Christians will end up there because of their pride.

It was many years ago when humanity turned from building a better future for their children to kicking the problem down the road for their children to solve. Since then, it has all been downhill, and we have had to suffer the consequences of narcissism and greed plaguing the planet. No respect for nature or another human being is needed when you are groomed in a society where trampling on nature and using other people for ones own ends is the de facto way of life. All the while they call those of us who aren't content with that reality "weak" and throw a thousand "solutions" at the wall to try and "fix" us, pretending as though they're empathetic and caring because that is easier to do than actually uprooting this culture of manipulatory grifters.

I hate how bad interactions with certain people have ruined my ability to function as a human being, it just sucks thinking everyone is like that and being too scared to function and really just made me lose faith in society as a whole

Humanity is a disgusting, predatory species. There are no good people. Everyone wants something from you. You and me are no different. It's just the human condition. People are narcissistic, vain and cruel, and everyone has a price. I'm sure all of these attributes have been exaggerated due to how our society is structured, where you stand to gain the most from being sociopathic. Yet, it can't all be attributed to that. Humans are and have always been violent and self centered, even in a nature setting. It's not so odd, really: we evolved from chimps. Primates who go to war with each other over fruit trees. The human instinct is take, take, take. We only give to our children, and a lot of people (especially fathers) don't even bother with that.

How many wars have been fought? How many men killed, women raped (and killed)? How many animals tortured to death in factory farms? It won't ever be enough. Humanity is a black hole, just ever craving for more. Once you realize this, it's very hard to not be suicidal and filled with disgust for oneself. It seems to me that people who aren't suicidal are just.. incredibly ignorant, or at least coping through ignorance.

If you are neurodivergent or traumatised and cannot cope through ignorance, then the only purpose of this world is to make sure you are completely and utterly wrecked, with not a shred of innocence left, by the time you leave it.
