Personally, I keep worrying that if I end up succeeding with ctb, I'll just be reborn into the same exact life and have to suffer the same things until I do whatever I was born to fulfill. This mainly came from hearing spiritual people say stuff like we have soul contracts we must complete, old karma, lessons and stuff like that and they would always say you shouldn't kill yourself because you're going to face the same issues in another life until you complete your purpose or learn the lesson that the higher beings or whatever are trying to teach you.

Another fear is that I'll be trapped in the afterlife with no where to have peace or freedom.

I know it all may seem dumb and strange but I'm honestly not in a stable mindset and I haven't been for a while.

So does anyone else have irrational fears that causes them to think twice before going through with their plan? No judgment, it'll just help me feel less alone about my own worries.

your a machine made up of atoms i don't believe in the soul there's no evidence for such a thing, it's not a irrational fear to belilve in rebirth since your already here whats to say it can't happen again, may be a worse a life awaits you maybe a better one thats the chance you take on life it's our fate to be here, i don't worry about the afterlife its completly out of our control and what will be will be it's destiny maybe where just nothing forever.

I have the same fears too. I want for my existence to completely cease, so I'm scared of repeating this life, reincarnating, or going to some sort of afterlife like heaven or hell.

I personally don't think it's an irrational fear at all (though I could be biased lol), because there is literally no solid proof of what happens after death. It only makes sense to fear what we don't know.

I am somewhat into spirituality and the occult. I personally feel that its not so much the act of suicide that could possibly affect what happens next, but maybe your state of mind and emotions as you cross over. I think i read somewhere that some buddhists will ctb if they achieve enlightenment. I guess if one were to believe in karma and the afterlife, then it would be best to cross over in a positive and accepting state of mind rather than being filled with sadness and despair.

Whilst I am an atheist, I do wonder if there will be karmic punishment for my life/manner of death. I figure I'm probably already damned if that's the case though!

Yup. You're not the only one. If there's nothing on the other side, what could be the problem? it's just non existence vs suffering. If there were, however, an afterlife, why would it be a given that it won't be worse than this one?

So glad I'm not alone. Honestly even if I don't cease out of existence, all I want is to be free and at peace. Reincarnation into a worse life or the same one or even being stuck in a certain area/dimension is my biggest fear and it's holding me back. Like you said there is no solid proof of what comes after so our types of fears are rational. I just hope that after decades of suffering and torture, we will all finally get the peace and freedom we've dreamt of.

I think I have watched a video about some buddhist who knew he couldnt achieve enlightenment because his mind could only focus on his physical pain or something and he cut his own throat as he decided to reincarnate and try to reach enlightenment in his next life

Though i also watched videos of buddhists explain how to handle your mind when in physical pain and just let whatever thoughts rise without resisting nor trying to escape from them but just to observe and sit with them or whatever so...

If you believe there is no soul and all you are is a construct made up out of atoms and chemical reactions, then there is no afterlife to consider. As all of these are following specific laws of physics they exclude any potential for self determination, so you are already predetermined to CTB ... or not.

If you believe you can choose suicide then obviously something exists that doesn't follow any predictable laws like those that apply to atoms and chemistry. You can call that a soul.

If a soul exists anything is possible, but probably not what any of the religions preach.

Whatever you believe in, we all die in the end. You can take comfort in that, regardless of your choice to live or die (unless you follow a religion, in that case you'll burn in brimstone or are reincarnated as a cricket). 😌

What comes after has only an impact on my decision to kill myself if suicide will change my afterlife. Simply spoken: Suicides will burn in hell. If my actions in this life dont influence our afterlife we have to take it as it comes.

In order to clarify the hell threat I studied the latest findings in brain research. And the result makes me sure that there will be nothing after death.

Watching videos about people who have experienced Near Death Experience helped me a lot.

Yes- I have concerns definitely. I was also brought up with spiritual ideas of heaven and hell. It's kind of difficult to get rid of those ideas completely. Still- I am leaning more and more towards thinking there is nothing. No God and no afterlife.

I'm not so sure I'd say it was ENTIRELY irrational though to believe in such things. I'm not sure that we'll ever categorically know either way. Atheists tend to say the burden of proof needs to fall on those who DO believe to provide evidence that there is a God/afterlife etc. I do understand the dilema- once we've looked everywhere and found no God- what then? Is he/she/it in a dimension we don't have access to? When will either side concede? I doubt they will to be honest...

Still- I think a lot of our lives are built on irrational things. We were brought up to believe them. It DOES seem likely to me- looking at the evidence we do have- about the worlds creation, evolution etc. that religions seem more manmade to me. Stories to explain things we don't understand and moral laws to enforce legal ones.

Still- we aren't totally rational beings- otherwise we'd be robots. There ARE still mysteries in this world. PERHAPS science will one day be able to explain everything- who knows. We DON'T know all the facts at the moment though. I think we do tend to depend so much on what we are taught. I expect we in fact believe or live by plenty of things that are irrational in fact. What's rational about language for instance? Why is an apple called an apple? It isn't factually an apple- it's just a label. I suppose religion and beliefs in an afterlife are labels we use to explain things we don't really understand. Maybe science IS starting to catch up. You sort of have to wonder if one day- there won't be any religions left.
