Now … if the rest of humanity would comply.

If only, if only! I know for a fact that will be a challenge considering my state is like the Mormon capital and they usually have at least 4 kids each.

I noticed that the common reasoning behind antinatalism is that imposing suffering on kids is bad, and if the life is truly full of suffering, then it may be a good thing not to bring kids into existence, because suffering is bad, right? Sounds suspiciously altruistic.

Yes antinatalism is an altruistic philosophy.

I was hoping to see more self-serving reasons, like preferring to spend resources on oneself rather than raising one's progeny.

The more I think about it the more I think: how could someone even be suicidal and a natalist? If you yourself have gone through enough suffering to make you suicidal...to make you want to give up your life entirely...how could you support taking the chance that happens to your kid?

I mean, that's why I was childless in my teen years. Sure I had my period and could be pregnant...but I could also not be pregnant, hang out with friends and study for college. Lol now as an adult, it's because I've seen that people who are wealthy, middle class, and poor all suffer in different ways.

As an antinatalist, I discovered something on YouTube that I thought was interesting in a disturbing way.

There's a plant-based, homeschooled, Christian, Finnish family of 12, they belong to a doomsday/apocalyptic cult started by the father's mom, and the mom looks really healthy at 41 year old, but she dresses all her kids ages 20 to 8 months old in matching, colorless clothing. And get this, they live in what appears to be a mansion in Finland, that they don't own! And in her morning routine, she shares that her and her teen daughter wake up at 3am to start the day!

It's all so weird. Why are humans so weird.

It is self serving. Entirely. I know people are full of crap, why should antinatalists be any different? Honestly it's just sad.

But at the same time, it's coincidentally selfless to the unborn fetus.

It's pisses me off that the right wing want to end abortion. Let them wait until they are shot to death in school with an assault rifle.
I still consider it lucky to die in high school than have to wage slave for the rest of your life.

That was pretty funny

I thought so too. :)):))

Lol it was!!! I feel bad for her sister though. Once you sign up for being Mormon, it takes a lottttttt of work to get out of the system!

@not-2-b-the-answer Right? 4 people died from car accidents at my high school while I was attending, and I didn't realize back then how lucky they were!

They were often drunk, driving at night, crashed and bam, done with life.

I am an anti-natalist, and frequently audibly question why people had children. They know that the world is going to continue to get worse, they admit this, and yet they brought things into the world to suffer. For what? An ego monument?
Yes, many people want an ego monument. I think a lot of people also realize on some level that their own lives are meaningless, so they use their children to fill the void in their lives. Working as a disposable wage slave seems more worth it if you can justify it with doing it for the sake of your child and watching him/her grow. The problem is that these people often don't want to think about the fact that they just brought another human being into the world without his/her consent and are forcing him/her to repeat the meaningless cycle as just another wage slave.

Someone died when I was in high school in a car accident as well. Not sure if they were drunk but they were driving fast.
I also didn't realize how lucky they were at the time. I don't know how long they had to suffer before they were gone but it sure is better than suffering an entire lifetime of misery.

Used to be antinatalist but now believe everyone should be able to do what they want. In my (and many others) case kill myself. Im not gonna attack someone else's freedom while fighting for my own

Unfortunately, my parents' doing what they wanted is what lead to my existence.

And I now I am forced to correct their mistake by doing something unimaginably hard which fills me with unimaginable dread.

Obviously everyone's entitled to their opinion. Still there's a rather glaring difference between procreation and suicide: in the first case one burdens another human-being directly and basically decides for him or her. In the second case one decides only for oneself. Huge difference.

In my view one should be free to do whatever one wants aslong it only concerns one's own body and mind. Clearly procreation goes much further than that: it's gambling with another's well-being.

There is something to be said for legalizing humane suicide as a form of insurance against the potentially disasterous consequences of procreation. It would certainly make more sense than what we have now: procreation is a universal right while (attempting) suicide is prosecuted. Something is very wrong here.

Bring new life into this serfdom of suffering which is human existence, and you will be cheered on and there will be a party with gifts and cake.

Attempt to exit the said serfdom of suffering and you will branded mentally ill and called out for your moral depravity.

How can anyone not see how utterly absurd this is?
