I was looking up the law on whether there was an any restrictions on DNR's and this is what some inbred said .... infuriated!!! How can people get away with things like that?

Easy for them to say if they've never felt so out of sorts that they've contemplated dying. Nice easy go to platitudes.

Anyway, theoretically you can have a DNR at any age, your doctor or psychologist or psychiatrist will have to assess that you have full mental capacity but once that is clear you can sign that legal document so if you attempt suicide and you are found, the emergency services are not allowed to revive you. You can also specify certain treatments you dont want etc. It is not health or illness related but based on your mental state at the time you make it. If the relevant medical people feel you are not mentally able to make that decision you will be denied a DNR but it might be worth looking at for some people.

EDIT: I noted that in some states in America, relatives can over-ride a DNR if it is felt in your best interests but it has to go through legal channels by which time it could be too late anyway. This caveat doesn't seem to apply in the UK. Look up the law wherever you are to see what applies.

Yeah, I was under the impression that DNR is overridden if it's suicide because you're deemed not of right mind and thus must be treated/saved. I know it's upsetting, but you have to remember they think they're helping you. It's in their oath.

This seems to be different in different countries and different areas. I am deemed fully capable of making the decision to ctb by my mental health professionals so they leave me to get on with it. 8 attempts and not one section. Even on the days where they know I am about to attempt ctb that day I am left to it, as an adult of sound mind that is my decision to make. I am UK, but other people in the UK report differently so I dont really know.

Wow what a fucktard. I can't get over stuff like this, it doesn't even matter if it's directed at me or someone else

It's not even just platitudes it's straight up offensive.

Just replace suicide or 'mental illness' with homosexuality... it was exactly the same thing a few decades ago.
.
@Lostnotfound did you go ahead and message him?

Another good one from r/CMV:

"What about if we take another angle on this topic. Lets say suicide is a basic human right, but with rights comes responsibilities. You are 18, been living with your parents for your whole life, you have literally contributed nothing. To earn your ticket out, you need to pay your dues. I read somewhere that the total cost of raising someone to 18 is an almost 6 figure number. When you have repaid that price to your parents/society, you get a syringe that will end your life and make you a tree; giving oxygen to your fellow humans.

Would that be a sufficient tradeoff?
