I did. Also never thought I would like a sports anime since i don't do sports.
I guess that's how you can tell an anime or manga is really good. When you enjoy it despite the subject matter.

Same thing happened to me with Initial D (dating myself here). Don't give a crap about cars or racing, but I loved the hell out of that.

My all time favorite anime would have to be Higurashi no Naku Koro ni ("Higurashi - When They Cry" in English). I mostly like darker anime, but I will watch a bit of everything. Unfortunately, this most recent wave of depression has me not doing much of anything right now.

Hi everyone, first post here. As someone with social anxiety, I loved Welcome to the NHK. Quite depressing though...

No mention of Satoshi Kon? Perfect Blue, Millennium Actress, Paranoia Agent and Paprika. A small but superb body of work

For healing anime recommendations, I recommend Aria The Animation series (+Natural, and Origination), and Non Non Biyori :)
Another recommendation is The Promised Neverland ;)

Gintama is my favourite anime of all time (hence my profile pic). It's so stupid but fun and touching. Even its title is dumb as hell (almost sounds like testicles in Japanese).

Does it count if a friend gets you to watch 'The Irregular at Magic High School' But it was the only thing you've ever watched?

Death Note is probably my favourite. I used to watch anime a lot but I don't really watch it now. I am super excited for the manga one shot of Death Note coming out soon, though.

That being said, do you guys know some sad and/or melancholic animes? Thanks.

I have a huge backlog im not really getting to bc i cant use my laptop to often, I want to watch akira, kikis delivery service, paranoia agent and a bunch of other stuff. I'm watching texhnolyze right now bc its on funimations youtube channel and its the same character artist and i think writer(s) as Lain, I'm enjoying it so far

Paprika (Satoshi Kon) blew me away when I first watched. If you haven't watch it yet, you should :)
Another K - ON lover ❤
Kiki's Delivery Service is a really good one. Most miyazaki ones are calming.

I've been meaning to watch paprika as well i havent found a good rip on youtube tho. The song they sing for asuza at the end of the k-on movie made me embarrassingly teary eyed I didn't expect to get attached to characters in a slice of life comedy.

Yeah it gets really emotional at the end. The movie was fun to watch as well. Wish there another season.

they are doing more of the manga which is odd considering that the anime is much more popular, so theres a slight chance we might get another season following the same story in the next few years

It bears repeating: Evangelion might be one of the BEST animes/stories of all time.

I didn't mention Paprika in my initial post but that is also a love of mine. I don't think my friends who i watched it with took to it as much, but i know it is quite popular among certain crowds.

I love watching supernatural and/or feelgood/wholesome anime, Natsume Yuujinchou being my all time favorite. Finished a bunch of stuff this week out of which Orange interested me the most as it has suicide as a theme.

I'm adding more because i watched almost satoshi kons whole film career, tokyo godfathers is one of the most heartwarming movies ive ever seen in my life, its about a group of homeless people who find a lost baby and try to find its mother, gud shit.

i also watched a bunch of misaaki yuuasa's stuff and i think i already mentioned tatami galaxy but, walk on girl, the night is short is a really fun movie and a spiritual successor to tatami. mind game has a lot of fun animation I love the 3d models mixed with real images they use for some closeup scenes, the character designs are also really fun and even the story is kind of pointless as a whole and unsatisfying but the interesting themes and animation make up for that.

Right now I'm watching Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. Which is simply amazing because cyber-crime is basically what my entire life is about.

But I also liked Kimi ni Todoke, Trigun, Black-rock Shooter had amazing slice of life artistry from what i recall. Simply Perfect. Of course the normal stuff like Dragon Ball Super, Death Note, etc...

Cowboy Bebop really touched me. I absolutely the soundtrack. So Jazzy and clever.

I guess thats about it. I'll definitely check out some listed in this thread.

Gundam Wing was also one of the first Anime series I ever watched. Seriously watching gigantic mech suits fighting on both Earth and in space was enthralling to watch as a 6 year old.
