I don't really feel it's up to you to describe how OP "disciplines" those cats. Are you there when they're hitting and spraying them? How do you know they use a water spray and a 'tap' to discipline them?

thats not what i said. i said theres a difference between the 2 and considering they feel sorry for even discipling them they probably arent overly harsh about it. instead of assuming they still abuse the cats, why not ask them how they discipline the cats?

OP please do not hit or spray the cats!! That's still abuse.

They said "... but I don't feel good about it." That's what brings me to believe that the discipline' (especially when OP is angry) is abuse rather than discipline.

that doesnt say that at all. they could feel bad about any degree of it, even so much as petting the cat because they could now have ptsd and remember every time they so much as look at a cat and feel bad. "i dont feel good about it" says nothing about how they are treating the cat, just how they feel about it.

theres abuse and then theres discipline. what are you going to do if the cat keeps getting up on shelves? maybe chewing on plants (that could kill them)? a quick spirt of water or a tap to get them down does no harm and they never specified anything about it, its not safe to assume that they are using a garden hose or all their force.

have you talked to your family about it? maybe putting them up for adoption.

I also wonder how many on here attacking the OP are not vegan? And support various other forms of animal abuse, ie the animal agriculture industry, purchase products made from wool, leather etc., buy from brands that test on animals? Part of my work as an activist was to document and film what happens on farms and in slaughterhouses and the torture that goes on there is just as horrific, if not worse, than what the OP did, yet most of you probably eat animals.... (ight imma go run for cover)

I discipline them if they repeat pushing doors or ruining stuff, but I don't feel good about it.

Ehhh man... it's a good thing you feel guilt at least. Sorry for harsh words but emotions took control over me. You mustn't do that! Cats are very sensitive to any form of abusement/strict discipline and you won't teach them anything this way. You're just teaching them that they should avoid you. There are other ways.

i can not believe some people. its the past, they cant change that. what matters is that they want to change it now. instead of reminding them of what they already know why not help them progress into the future so they dont do it again. im sure everyone has regrets theyd rather not be hounded about so why do you have to do it to them. kindness doesnt cost anything and can change a lot. by being mean youre only continuing the cycle and i speak in general not just here. if you seriously want the world to be a better place, if you seriously want shit like this to stop, then encourage it to stop not for them to just want to kill themselves, thats nothing more then a good way to prove that we encourage death. making hurtful comments that could push someone over the edge is nothing more then that. you want a nice community, where you can be free to talk but ive noticed whenever someone comes in with something you dont agree with you become horrible people really quick, ditching everything that you yourself is looking for here. why should you have a safe place but not them? why do they have to put up with what you came here to escape when all they are trying to do the same thing? this is suppose to be a safe and accepting place, away from a society that only looks down on us, while you treat some of the people that come here the exact same thing you are getting away from. whats disgusting is the hate and hypocrisy from some of the members here.

Ok, I put it badly. I meant that there shouldn't be any animals in place that OP lives. Relocating seems like a good option but on the other hand it might be difficult for soap to find a new home... Anyway, they shouldn't live with cats under the same roof. OP won't be tempted to hurt an animal and thus they won't feel guilt afterwards and the cats.. well the cats won't suffer.

I know it;s overly repeated by various people but it seems like a good way.

you say you feel guilty about that one cat and that's valid and I thought that was it. But you continue to not treat cats very well. I feel like you should take some action and get your cats fixed. Maybe go for some therapy and be more vocal about how you don't want more cats with your family. You can't really be forgiven if you still continue like this.

I won't comment on your past actions, as it would be unproductive to do so.

Is it possible for you to live somewhere where you are not near animals? It sounds like your household is starting to cat horde which is not good for the cats even without direct abuse. If conditions are getting unsanitary you could put an anomalous call into animal control, and they will remove the cats. If your family is not spaying or neutering and the cats are reproducing they will become a larger problem very quickly.

My cats were always castrated. They don't have to struggle with estrus/overly high attraction and they don't pee all over the house.

Depends on the area I assume, but a lot of animal groups will do it for free to help control population and disease.

It's either that or the house will be crawling with them, and no one but my mom to take care of them all.

My health is garbage so I can't take care of them myself, and tbh I prolly wouldn't be willing to do so even if healthy, despite all the guilt I feel.

Spaying is expensive and the aftercare too, so that's outta the question.

Amen brother, whenever i see these types of controversial confession posts on reddit, the amount of people (usually the majority of the replies) commenting just to humiliate and say vile things is disturbing. Its a good opportunity to virtue signal or let emotions get the best of you
