Doesn't surprise me. You can be amazing looking and still feel shit in the inside for all sorts of reasons.

There was a news reporter here recently, mid 40s, great paying job, nice house, lots of friends, wife and kids - killed himself on holiday in Switzerland. Depression makes anyone its slave.
I have been especially interested in people who have lots going for them, who ctb or want to. To me, it is a profound commentary on the human condition. People without many good things in their lives may think they that if only they had X or Y, they would be OK. And maybe for them personally, they would. But we contend with difficult existential aspects of life simply because we are human, no matter how much we have. For some people, these existential aspects make life impossible for them. I've been dipping into Schopenhauer's essay, The Emptiness of Existence. He articulates problems we contend with because we are human - not because we're humans who are necessarily down and out.

Suicide doesn't discriminate. Some beautiful people do it. Some people with their whole lives ahead of them who are more successful than most people can dream of do it.
I think that success can create a lot of challenging pressures, like ensuring you remain successful, or feeling like you always need to be more successful than you were before, etc. And with beauty, you feel the pressure not to lose it. It can feel embarrassing to become less successful than you were, and less beautiful than you were.

Good point. Can't relate to being successful or beautiful, but very good point.

The very mentality that supports looks being a substantial reason to live, is the reason it's not.

Imagine a girl. 10/10, tits, ass, everything about her is perfect...

It's incompressible for her to have a justifiable reason for wanting to die because the opposite sex wants them?

Anybody who is "attractive" is not required to justify their want of death more then the next person.

Imagine you are a 10/10 girl. The world tells you that you have every advantage in life because people want to fuck You?

If anything, being attractive can deter from the legitimacy of your pain, because you are fuckable?

So it's ok for a attractive person to subdue to a life of objectification because they have a pleasing body structure? No

People who are "attractive" have this unfair expectation that life will be easy for them.

Guess what, I'm hung like a horse, and I don't do porn. The people you wished you looked like? You most likely wouldn't be able to take the good with the bad.

Youre depressed? Id tottalfy stick my dick in you, so why are you depressed?

It's a stupid formality to obsess over

this kind of reminds me of mental health workers or psychiatric nurses telling me that i shouldn't feel suicidal because i'm pretty.
but beauty doesn't last forever. the pain that i have inside will never go.
Yeah, not exactly the same but I remember being told by psych nurses "you just need to get a little perspective" and "you only went to the bridge because it's a public place and wanted the attention"

I had a psychiatrist once tell me: "You are smart and good looking, so what exactly is the problem?"
Like those things somehow make you unable to have mental problems.

Heh, I had a cop say to me "you don't look depressed". Seems this is a pretty widespread issue.

Maybe put on some smokey eyes makeup and rub tiger balm in your eyes?

If a psychiatrist is asking that question then you know the world is fucked.

There are plenty of ways to give smart and good looking people mental problems.
It blows my mind how people think being smart and good looking will automatically keep you from any danger and harms in life. No matter how smart and good looking you are you are still human so you can be king of the world one day and at rock bottom the next just from a freak accident.

I had an hour long existential discussion with my psychiatrist today. I feel I've lucked out with mental health services, reading others' experiences.

Maybe a relationship where we're like a team with love and respect for each other and she doesn't want anymore kids. Maybe a meaningful job I'm passionate about and so not counting down to retirement. I'd love to feel happy and gtreatful for what I have, depression makes it hard

To add to the kids part I have one and kids are great, I just don't want anymore, rather not pass this down to them.

I had an hour long existential discussion with my psychiatrist today. I feel I've lucked out with mental health services, reading others' experiences.

I also talked about having suicidal thoughts, basically first time I ever opened up about it to a medical professional, and I said actually doing it would be difficult for me. His response: "oh but committing suicide is quite easy if you really want to".

I was like 'wtf is this', even today I honestly can't understand how someone in his job (psychiatrist) could make such a callous comment. I replied saying that what is difficult for me is the way it would affect my family, who do care about me.
In my experience psychiatrists tend to be unemphatic, much more so than therapists.

I agree. I'm also shocked especially in cases of trans people, when they pass as their preffered gender. It's such a shame when they still take their life. But gender dysphoria is a bitch and it can still drag people down even when they look totally fine. Everyone around you could compliment your look and you still would suffer from self-doubts. I know this feeling and it's nasty.

okay but this is one of those things. like, i understand that a society that hyperfixates on appearance can cast you aside if you don't abide by those standards.

but the inverse of that is literally being objectified, dehumanized, reduced to less than human because you're fuckable. you don't know who's being nice to you because they like you or because they want to use you for a sexual need, or for what you represent for their insecurities. like. yea, you get a lot of advantages, but it can feel very empty--best case scenario. worst case, you're raped and used because someone thinks you're that irresistible.

i really can't even compare anyone's experiences. this whole forum, this thread--at least to me--is a moment to like, practice compassion or whatever for other people, like for real, we all have reasons we want to die.

It's that old story, the grass is always greener on the other side. Good looks, wealth and fame do not come with a guaranty a health, contented life. Mental illness as well as physical illness can happen to anyone. It doesn't discriminate against anyone. Whatever issues any of us face someone who "has it all" will be dealing with those same problems.
