Story A funny thing happened on my way to SN

In November of 2020, realizing age was creeping up on me and I was alone, except for my wife, I began to decide if I wanted to choose my end (to whatever degree we can) or trust in a system that only a child or an idiot would trust. The problem was I am a notorious coward, and all the popular techniques sounded extremely nasty! Eventually I discovered SN which seemed about as peaceful as one could hope. This was before the ban SN hysteria hit full force so I was able to buy a 2 pound container of "food grade" 99+% pure SN, NaNo2 from an industrial chemical source for $20.45. I would name the company because they are still in business but no longer offer SN.
A few days later I checked to make sure my order had been processed and they said they never heard of me, there was no such order on their books, and they showed no invoice. Of course I was confused and disappointed and began to research other resources, though none seemed as reliable as my original. Then a small corrugated cardboard box appeared on my doorstep. There was my mailing address, but nothing on the box to indicate the sender. But when I opened it there was my bottle of SN. It was listed as 99% pure, Food Grade meaning there could be no impurities, and FCC which was the further standard for purification. So it looks like I have hit the gold standard of sodium nitrite and hopefully I will be in heaven 15 minutes before the devil knows I'm gone. Not that he hasn't been keeping an eye on me, it's been one wretched thing after another. The SN was sealed in a plastic bottle, wrapped in a heavy plastic outer layer, which I've been very careful to keep tightly knotted. I found a small, unassuming box that I kept in the top of my closet, where I could look at it to remind myself that I had a way out of this wretched existence. However, I hadn't looked at it in a couple of years, and I began to get a little bit panicky because the big time is coming up fast. So I've taken it out again and given it a good look over, and it is there as good as new. Nevertheless, when one decides to catch the bus once and for all, you don't want to take a chance on missing it and having to figure out how to walk back home to Hell. So my suggestion, and I'm not arguing for this, it's your free choice, get it while you can and pack it away. It took me 5 years before I found I truly absolutely had to have it. But all that time I had the comfort of knowing it was there should I need it. Now I do, and I cannot be more grateful.

It sounds like you might have gotten it from the same place I did from the description of the box the bottle and the plastic bag. The problem with that is when I had opened the plastic and open the bottle it was not airtight by any means. I know air had gotten in and that is a big issue. I got mine in 2020 and since I knew it had been sitting there for 4 years last year I went ahead and tossed it. I bet you it was from the same person I think it was 2 lb. Granted I did not stop and tested like some people might have I figured there's no way that it could still be potent enough. You can try opening the plastic that's in a knot and taking off the lid. I think the lid was red but I could be wrong no vacuum seal no safety seal. So I would suggest if you plan on using it to absolutely test it first to see if it's still good and has not changed. I'm not sure the test strip show if it's still potent enough or if it's just the right type.. people on here will be able to tell you this. I wish I would have known the importance of the airtight seal when I received it I would have immediately transferred it to a container that had an airtight seal then also put it in an airtight Ziploc bag or something similar I just figured like you it was good to go and I stuck it in the closet and sat there for years.. but you don't want to have the false sense of security that is actually still potent enough and then really be screwed up. there are people on here that are way more experts than me so maybe some other people can chime in! .Since then I had ordered new from a different person and it came in a vacuum sealed bag. Then I additionally put it in several Ziploc bags and pushed out all the air but I've had it for a year and a half and need to use it soon..

I kept the plastic bottle in the cardboard box it came in, though unsealed. And I kept that in another cardboard box which was also unsealed. I never opened the SN bag or bottle. The SN remains completely free flowing with no discoloration or clumping. Was there something about the SN that made you suspicious? I will try to get more if I need to, but the statistics on this look good and I don't know what I will get from another order. And time is really short. It sounds like your SN is still good, SN is incredibly stable, air will degrade it but if it's in a bottle that was tightly screwed on it should be fine.

Proper containment, sn can last 3+ years. Better if you get access aquarium nitrite test kit.

If no test kit, a simple blood test can also be somewhat assuring.

Please test it. Depending on when you ordered it, you've had it for almost a full 5-6 years. It would be really helpful for the rest of us to know how potent it remained. I made a thread on the long term stability of it. There's not much info out there for anyone who has kept it past 4 years.

At the very least, make a thread right as you go if you end up using that particular batch of SN. That will definitely tell us if it was still good.

I had two very large bottles exactly like you I'm pretty sure from the same place. I believe it was probably legit however I know that air seeped in because it was not in an airtight bottle. When I unscrewed it there was no protective seal there was nothing keeping air out. And since it was 4 years old and I knew I could get more I threw it out. Because I cannot risk failure I will be put away for life there was no second chances for me. I'm far from an expert I think I mentioned before other people probably give you a better judgment but I couldn't risk it.
