What exactly did it feel like for you and how long did it take to pass out? I've been trying partial for a while and all I get is this exploding head feeling and discomfort. I never felt close to passing out before I'm definitely doing something wrong. This is probably the way I'll go out as I'm too much of a pussy to attempt any other method 😔
If you tried full suspension how much courage did it take to go the whole way? Did you hesitate or was it a quick decision

Also if you failed, how did it happen and what mistakes did you make?

Yes, I am curious also. I would like to attempt partial, but arrange it so that if it hurts too much I can take the noose off and abort. Do not want to die in great pain. Quick and painless and in control the entire time, so I can stop if I want to.

I tried full suspension with a 10mm climbing rope. It was really painful and after a few seconds the SI kicked in and because I was near a wall I could haul myself up and relieve the pressure. I think that the will to live was much stronger than the wish to CTB.

I think I made a mistake with the knot round my neck, I started with a running bowline but then switched it out to a carabiner so it would tighten more easily. Reading round the subject I think that a successful hanging is more about pressure on the carotid arteries than restricting air through the windpipe.

The rope was fastened to two roof trusses in my garage and I did look into a long drop method but the shock load of my 85kg body dropping 2m could have dislodged the truss and pulled the roof down on me.

If I try again I might pad the front of the rope with a piece of cloth to ease the pressure on my windpipe but make sure there is pressure on my arteries.

I had a nasty bruise round my neck for a couple of weeks as well.

Why was switching from a Running Bowline to a carabiner a mistake? As far as I'm aware, both should work.

It was a big carabiner, one I used for belaying when I started climbing.

Ironically the rope was my old "wall rope" which I retired as unsafe because the sheath was worn. I have made dog leads from one of the ends.

1 thing i know for sure is doing it while drunk will definitely lower your SI and the pain. i have attempted partial both sober and drunk and i csn tell you it felt way more difficult and painful when i was sober

I had tried hanging on it's own but found that although painful i could endure it to a certain point but then my "will to live" kicked in and i would either put my feet on the support "back up" or cut the rope with a sharp knife i had in case i changed my mind.
When i made what i regard as my most serious attempt from which i am perplexed as to how i survived i had hanging as a "back up".
As in i had a noose round my neck (standard hangmans knot), had taken enough opiates to equal around 2000mg of morphine ( 80mg oxycontin tablets with broken slow realise) and also a plastic bag over head with an elastic band so when the opiates and valium ( 200mg) kicked in i would basically slip off the chair, the noose would tighten and the bag would pull tight.
As an "escape" i had a knife on a cord round my neck.
All i recall was blackness surging up, but then awoke on the floor some hours later with the rope off my neck and the bag cut.
The knife was on the floor next to me.
I from that doubted that i could be alive as i thought it was full proof method. This doubt that i was/am not in-fact alive has remained to varying levels since.
I have no idea of how I'm still alive tbh, i know i have a big tolerance to the opiates and benzos from over 20 plus years being on them but the amounts did render me unconscious but in the last moments some unconscious urge/will to live must have kicked in.
I am ambivalent about the outcome.

The only time when I did pass out was when I had the rope placed as high as possible. I wasn't even aware of when it happened, but in my opinion, if you do it well enough you won't notice anything. It'll be very peaceful, but the problem is always relaxing into the drop.

This will have to be in two parts as they were very different experiences.

First is my hanging experience as a kid. My first attempt not long after turning 7 that I've mentioned in other posts asking when your first attempt was. Given that I was a lot lighter and smaller than I am now I'm not sure how much this counts for what I felt physically. I also don't know for sure the times so it's just how long I think it was. I was playing in the house with a plastic skipping rope. I don't know what happened but I suddenly looked at it and made a noose without thinking. Then I tied it to a hook in the ceiling that was there and I knew could take my weight and got onto a nearby end table. Pulled the noose over my head and stepped off. I remember my eyes going wide, my hands going to my throat, my feet flailing around, and the gagging sound I made as I was just barely able to force a bit of air through with all my strength. I think I was in the air maybe about 10 secs at most and then my foot found the end table and suddenly I was standing on it again. I loosened the noose slightly to get a breath. After a few seconds of standing there I repositioned it to where it was the first time and stepped off again. Mostly the same experience as the first except I was making an effort to not move my feet as much to not find my footing again. After another maybe 10-15 seconds the skipping rope broke from my weight and I fell to the floor landing on my feet. I undid everything and went back to playing without thinking about anything. I didn't even know about the marks on my neck from what happened until a family member saw me and immediately questioned my about them. I've known since then that I was wanting to die and I wasn't meant to live in this world. For what I felt during all that. I don't remember actually thinking anything. It was just like it was instinct and that took over. I don't know how I knew how to do that or tie a noose without ever seeing anything like it before. There was no fear at all during any of it. I was pretty light back then too, I guess, because I didn't feel any pain at all during any of it. I think I wasn't blacking out either but also didn't get that head exploding feeling.

The second part is my teens through adulthood. I wasn't allowed another skipping rope or anything like that again even though they didn't figure out what happened. Every attempt to hang since then hasn't gone well. Either I'd hesitate with fear of the rope breaking again or the anchor point failing. Even though the anchor point wasn't an issue the first time. I could never just step off again. I'd always try to lower myself down and got that head exploding feeling before I could step off. With one exception last year I got a pull up bar to use as an anchor point as my new place doesn't have a good spot. I actually stepped off of the stool that time and the rope stretched enough that I hit the floor. Just enough to cause the head exploding feeling and a bit of pain. I hadn't kicked away the stool so I got back on it and undid everything again. The bar was too low and the rope too stretchy. I finally got an anchor point set up that should work and new rope. Holding of for a few things before I give it a try to see if I can do it this time and actually have it work out.

If you want your carotids pinched, you need full suspension.

Read the posted suicide manual from the Japanese guy yesterday.

People are mostly running in to problems because they want a way to back out (partial). Partial should work in theory, but I believe it's hit or miss.

It seems the only full suspensions that fail are because of improperly tied knots, bad placement of noose, or broken anchors. You want the ligature as high as possible, over the adam's apple and just under the jaw so you don't experience suffocation.

If you read the thread I reference above, the conclusion is that hanging is the easiest, least painful, most foolproof method available to most people. NOTHING is 100%, but full suspension is damn close.

If you are nervous, try drinking a little alcohol beforehand (limits inhibition) or you could try hyperventilating right after you put the noose around your neck. This will limit your need to breath in case you are worried about suffocation and most likely you would pass out from hyperventilating, drop, and never wake up. As long as your rope/anchor hold, and you aren't discovered within about 30 minutes, there is no coming back,

Never got it right, was always super painful when I'd try partial so I never went far enough to actually even call it a half assed attempt. Had more luck with night night which was still strangling-esque but much more bearable and that specific part went away about 10 minutes into the set up. But though I'm still here so what good did it do.
