40 S&W or 9mm +P

I already know the answer to my question but I wanted some of your guys opinions. Should I ctb with a 40 S&W or a 9mm +P. The 40 is technically more powerful offering more muzzle velocity and energy then the 9mm but I already have 9mm ammo and would have to order some 40 ammo. Btw I would be using a rifle so the velocity and energy would be greater than that of a handgun which will increase the lethality even more. What do you guys think?
