I am the same way sometimes with not eating, or wanting to eat. It is not healthy and can make you feel really bad.

If I did not have someone cooking and preparing food for me, I do not think I would be doing a good job to feed myself. I would probably be getting sick because of it.

Is there anybody to help cook or prepare food? I do start feeling hungry and then the food starts tasting good after I begin to eat it.. when/if someone else is there to make it and put it in front of me.

Good nutrition is really important to help how you feel physically and mentally, but I understand this though.

I hope everyone who feels like this can get some good food in them and regain their appetites, and hopefully start to feel a little bit better.

I have days where food is of no interest to me, I can get away with water and maybe snacks for meals, then I force myself to eat for others as they simply cannot understand not eating!
I personally prefer the not eating!

out interest do you have triggers bringing you to this point?

I've been in the same place and still am. In the past few weeks I've unintentionally lost 12 lbs by not eating enough or just not eating at all. I'm slowly starting to eat more again. But it comes and goes with my anxiety and depression. It sucks

I understand. <3

I've never had a big appetite anyway but since my anxiety and depression and physical (GI) issues have worsened over the years, my appetite has completely disappeared, especially when I feel sick from my stomach problems anyway. Eating for me these days is only a chore and usually makes me feel sicker after so I don't want to eat because of that too.

I agree with Spitfire above -- if you have someone who is willing to help you out with cooking meals or preparing food for you, please ask them to help even if only for awhile. I too find food more appealing when I don't have to expend the energy to cook or make anything - not because I'm lazy (I used to like making my own meals even if they were just simple ones) but because I am sapped of any energy or motivation to cook or even just make toast and tea some days. Even as old as I am, I often find myself these days missing my late mother even more b/c of how she'd so lovingly and willingly make food for me to help me to eat.

The longer you go without eating the harder it gets to eat 'normally' so please do try to find ways to either have someone help you out through this more difficult time, or at least try to get something nourishing down like some soup or eggs or even those nutrition shakes like Ensure or Boost (the don't taste the greatest but at least they're some nutrition and will keep your system actively working.

My heart goes out to you; I truly get how hard it is to force yourself to eat when you have no interest in food. Please feel better soon. <3
I got through periods of this. Last time was early this year and I ended up in the hospital
I'm scared that is my fate in the not to distant future as well as I am down to 92 lbs now at 5'8". :( I try to eat but just can't eat much.

May I ask what they did to you in the hospital? Did they put a tube in for feeding (I'm terrified of that), or just work with a nutritionist, meds...?

I hope you're doing better now.

Maybe try to get in some vitamins via a multivitamin tablet as well. Your body will be depleted of those things and will definitely be more achy.
I'm sorry you feel that way, OP.
That's an excellent suggestion.

I take children's chewable multivitamins because they are less harsh on my stomach. My GI doctor's nurse told me I could take 4 to 6 of them (two is one serving) a day. I take 4 a day.

Listen, I guess the physical pain you're putting yourself through might be more tolerable than the mental suffering and pain you are struggling with and are in need of relief. Whatever you do, we are here for you.

I really understand... It's been on and off for the last 9 months. I'm going into 4 weeks without really eating. I've only had about 1 small meal each week, forcing myself just to get something in me.

This has happened before, never for such extended periods. I've only this year understood that I equate food with happiness, or at least not being depressed. I think a part of me intentionally does not want to eat to make myself suffer. To prevent me from having any pleasure. I think about eating sometimes and it might motivate me for a minute, but then that quickly passes and I move on from that thought.

I love cooking, pretty good at it too I've been told. Now I couldn't care less. Especially with no one to cook for. That was my favorite thing, cooking for hours, waiting for a reaction. Bringing joy to that person. Hell, it wasn't just cooking, everything was about bringing joy to that person.

I do make an effort to drink lots of water. If you're not able to eat, at least try to drink more water than you usually do. And the multivitamins is a great idea too - not that I'm doing it. I hope you are able to get back to eating soon.

@Meditation guide I thought I saw a notification saying you replied to the following bit of my message:
I think a part of me intentionally does not want to eat to make myself suffer. To prevent me from having any pleasure.
I'm just curious if you did, I don't mind if it was deleted. Just trying to figure out if I'm starting to hallucinate... I feel like this has happened a few times in the forum now. Notifications of a reply or message, then I can't find it.

It's not healthy to not eat for so long, if you can force yourself to eat, even a little.
