Discussion 10 year old boy killed himself

About two weeks ago, a 10 year old boy, Sammy Teusch, took his own life after being bullied at school.
This is schocking and I wonder how a 10 year old learns about suicide methods.....

That fucking breaks my heart and I know people will think I'm too "pro-life" but that is a fucking failure of our society. Children have not had the capacity to commit any evil, and I hate when we don't or can't protect them. Healthy ten year olds should not be in so much pain that they even consider suicide.

Then again, I started being suicidal at 12.

Yeah it is so heartbreaking...... Look at those pictures, he was a happy little boy. It surely is a failure of society. What on earth did these teachers do? Why did they not protect him? His parents called over 20 times to talk to teachers about the bullying..... Incredible.
I don't mean to be irreverant but I would really like to know how he killed himself.
I was suicidal the first time at 15 but I was far away from having a plan.

however he learned about the idea of suicide, it's good that he left. no matter what age a person is at, once they become aware of that choice, it's better that they make that decision. that might already be a traumatizing experience for him which will affect the rest of his life. the chances of him getting any sort of proper help against bullying is little to none. if help does arrive, it'll most likely be half-assed -- the bullying then continues anyway.
this way he can now be at peace.

and a single image of a 'happy looking person' does not equal them being happy everyday. i could smile in a picture right now but that doesn't stop me from still needing and planning to kill myself.

@Kalista well, his parents could ve sent him to another school....... or refused to send him there again if nothing happens.... this school failed. They have that boy on their consicence.

and a single image of a 'happy looking person' does not equal them being happy everyday. i could smile in a picture right now but that doesn't stop me from still needing and planning to kill myself.

Please don t pick a word an make another story out of it. Maybe watch some report, his father describes his character very well. Besides there are many pics in the above report.

What on earth did these teachers do? Why did they not protect him?

I don't know what has happened on him but I experienced extreme bullying when I was 8.
Everybody - literally everybody was against me. One day I was kicked repeatedly (I guess it was about 50 times) by a gang of bullies, in front of a teacher, and she simply ignored what was happening in her classroom, because the "boss" of bully's father was an employee of highly reputable company and had a lot of influence over teachers. Every adult blamed me for being defiant, and my mom, she also had depression, even grabbed a kitchen knife and said to me, "I shall kill you."
(Note: she's not abusive now and I don't hold any grudges because it was just a kitchen knife, not a gun.)

According to her, I really hated school, and one day I refused to go to school. I said "I want to die" for the first time then.
I don't remember that at all, and I also don't know if I really wanted to die. I don't remember how I felt at that time, and I'm not sure the memories above are real, but since then I've been suicidal and fantasized about jumping off from a window in the classroom.

When I was 9, I knew about jumping and hanging and thought hanging causes agonizing suffocation so my method of choice was jumping. I chickened out every time I wanted to CTB and didn't attempt though.

But they say he CTB'ed in his bedroom. I can't imagine how he was desperate, to the point where he could complete his final act despite powerful survival instinct. I'm so sorry for him.

They really don't, especially if you are disadvantaged or don't seem like you have a great support system at home. Less people to advocate for you, and even then it sounds like this kid did and that didn't even help

This is just incredible sad, something went terribly wrong at that school that led the boy to believe there were no way out other than this. My heart goes to the parents which must be totally heartbroken.

Out of respect for the parents and the boy I hope this tread doesn't spiral out of control because of the pro-death people using this to prove their reproduction is evil point. This could absolutely been avoidable with a competent school working against bullying.

The worst thing anyone could do to a child is send them to school, public school in particular. They're goddamn trauma factories.

If I see someone in danger or being treated badly, I always butt in. Don't know. Guess I cannot stand it because I had to go through it myself.

Yeah but they misunderstand their fucking job. They HAVE to make sure nobody gets bullied. I cannot even believe teachers just watching it. That must have been a bunch of sadists.

I also got bullied in school, once got pushed into a locker by a girl twice my size. I ended up getting in trouble for it because of 'zero tolerance' and for being defiant (I explained that I was the one who was pushed into a locker). I had been a bit of a troublemaker in the past, which probably didn't help (nothing that harmed anyone else)

Definitely not the same as being kicked repeatedly by a gang of bullies though, that's truly awful and I'm so sorry that happened to you :(

My niece was bullied and they did keep her out of school and eventually just took most of her classes online until she graduated. She was a little older than this, though. 10 is just too young to deal with these things. (assuming there is an age that it should even be on anyone's radar). It's absolutely disgusting what's happening these days with the power of social media and how cruel children can be. I could have been bullied at a young age for a particular medical situation I was in but amazingly I wasn't. Today I think that would be different.

Yeah the bullying gets more and more. I guess, the United States are a whole different stroy when it comes to school and bullying. It is absolutely alarming if a 10 year old killes himself.

Horrible, disgusting. That children can suffer and cause suffering is horrible. It's so sad that for him the solution was death. May he be in peace. It's heartbreaking to listen and see this type of situation.

To the school, FUCK YALL. It's complete bullshit. The school should have taken action. I understand the child. As I've seen, many of us have suffered bullying. And it's heartbreaking.

Sammy Teusch didn't die because of being bullied; he died because his parents didn't love him enough to keep him safe.

Sammy's parents are blaming everyone, including the kids who did not pick on him. Please investigate Sammy's parents for possible child abuse.

Wow. I do not agree. Too tired to elaborate but he was 10... We all here are mostly fully grown adults. It should've been stopped. Maybe they couldn't afford to send him to another school which would probably have to be private because there's only so many schools per district; and homeschooling costs money and absence from work. It was probably not what the boy wanted either. Yes, the parents could've done more, but this isn't a localized problem; it's a societal silent epidemic. Saying it's good that he left is totally counterproductive. I don't care what the reasoning is. He had a chance, and at such a young age he was robbed of it. He still could've had a rich life. Plenty of people are bullied and go on for the better. The point is to minimize the kid suicides, not to be relieved that they're out of pain by means of this way. That's cold.

And also society - why are there so many children growing up without a consciousness? This makes me so mad that we couldn't protect that little boy, provide him and his PEERS the help and discipline they needed. And the reasons why he was picked on was so disgusting and superficial.

I think it was a hanging. The father said he "removed" him or something. I think it's mostly hanging with kids, and not a peaceful one. Just one that they have no means of backing out of. Otherwise pills. So sad. I didn't have the guts to when I was a kid to hang myself. Too painful. Still don't have the guts. These kids may not realize how painful it is, they may think it's quick, or just be that desperate and impulsive to not think nor care.

The US doesn't give a crap, full stop. Teachers are paid shitty and parents are now raising kids who verbally, emotionally, and physically abuse others, including their teachers. This doesn't excuse bullying though. As unfortunate as it is you might be correct. Parents can be lazy scumbags who decided to have children but just insufferable twats. I swear to god, I'm sick and tired of people having children just because. That is a human being you are choosing to bring into the world, not just a "thing".

Instead of just crossing their fingers and wish for good luck, and just repeatedly send their son back to the same negative environment...........

The parents need to take more accountability. Once again, after 20 failed attempts and yet they weren't proactive enough to take matters into their own hands to try changing the situation

By that point, its either changing schools, consider temporary home schooling, or maybe something online, or just find ways to take a short break. Because even if he never suicide, it still would of traumatized him for life, so either way its not a situation to be taken lightly

If you went to a restaurant, and they messed up your food over 20 times, or you took your car to a repair shop, and they messed up 20 times, I'm sure you wouldn't return even after just the 3rd time. But for some reason, they think its okay to neglect their own child's problems at school for over 20 times, and somehow still expected miracle to happen. I have no words left

Which source do you require? You posted the video. A school serves hundreds, if not thousands, of people. Nobody can guarantee your safety while out in public.

First, I protect my child, then I seek justice. Why not remove Sammy from school until a disciplinary decision is made to ensure his safety?

These parents treat their children as pawns, only caring about themselves.

They send their children to school because they believe that an increase in bullying incidents will prompt school boards to take action. So 20 incidents aren't enough?

Sammy's parents said they called the school 20 times, and teachers called to tell them Sammy was hiding from bullies.

These parents also use the school for free child care, which is why Sammy was sent to school rather than being kept safe at home.

Ultimately, Sammy died because his parents failed to protect him.
