If my family cannot afford for my corpse to have a natural burial, I would want my body to be buried in a Catholic cemetery. Cremation with interment in a mausoleum located on the grounds of a Catholic cemetery or burial of my ashes in a Catholic cemetery is a distant third in order of preference -- cheaper than burial, though. (The Catholic Church allows cremation as long as the ashes are buried or interred in one spot and not scattered in any way, though the Church prefers burial.) I do want a gravestone or memorial plaque of some kind, so that people who come to visit my grave and pray for the happy repose of my soul have somewhere tangible to go.

What many don't realise is that often the funeral is the worst part for family and loved ones.
Without doubt, in most cultures suicide is a big taboo and there is a significant aura of shame surrounding the mourners. This often causes blaming and bitterness between parties. It's an emotional affair and a recipe for discord.
There's also that added pain caused by viewing remains being buried, removed to cremation or otherwise disposed of. Letting go is often that moment they hold onto in their memory. I think that removing that source of distress is the last gift that I can offer.
