"You don't have to like it, but you better learn to live with it!" I hear it all the time. It really is exhausting. I wish we didn't have to live with unbearable things. 💔
I do not have learn to live with a damn thing! I now know how to end this damnable painful broke ass life!

That is one of most callous things I've ever read...

Though it was likely meant in jest, a practitioner's compassion, self-awareness and proper reading of a client's emotional cues can go a long way towards preventing unpleasant experiences.

Examples like this are why I've chosen to limit my contact with mental health professionals.
It was meant in jest, she was laughing, I chuckled… but, it's very clear that I'm very fragile right now.

I know she's pushing to get me to a breakthrough… but, we just started, not sure she even remembers my name yet. I don't know how to tell her I have no interest in getting familiar with post-trauma me, without raising red flags.
My mental health has improved since staying away from statutory mental health services. I found my own support worker and pay her myself out of my disability benefit since that is what it is for.

I'm also currently in online therapy. At the outset I discussed with her about ctb. No way in hell would I pay good money to someone I can't even open up to without the fear of being carted off to hospital. Here in the UK to be fair you'd need to do a lot more than talk or admit to having thoughts.

I'm paying her. Let her deal with my expectations, I don't give a fuck about hers tbh. If at any point I'm unhappy with her performance it is very easy to switch.
That's amazing! I'm so glad you're able to open up like that, I'd be thrown in a padded room. 😔
I'm really sorry, I understand so much why we could fear healthcare professionals..

Often, they say things they don't really lived and so understand, and also, most of the time the way they talk to us is due to law and morality.

But morality and law is for them, greater than real well being..

I'm sorry for what you're going through ❤❤

Love ❤
Thanks hun, it's hard for all of us. Their jobs are hard, too. I just wish it wasn't the same every week. Same questions, same answers… makes me feel like I'm really not getting anywhere ♡

I mean, she just heard me say again how much pain I'm in physically… goes right into "so what are you going to do to help that pain and take care of your new body?" Ummm… what?! I have no answers for her. None.
I'm sorry your therapist seems so insensitive to your trauma and condition. Some therapists want to push people too hard to find solutions when you just want to talk about how you really feel.

This is one of the worst things I've ever heard from a mental health professional. I am so sorry she said that to you. She has a duty to let you speak honestly about how you're feeling. There is a big difference between saying "I'm suicidial" or "I wish I were dead" and actually saying you have a specific plan of how and when to ctb. Simply saying you want to die or have had thoughts of suicide is NOT cause to alert authorities. Her statements are really lacking in empathy.

Therapy can be helpful if you have a person who lets you speak freely and isn't imposing their own agenda on you. Otherwise, it can do more harm than good. I'm sorry you're having such a terrible experience. xx
Thanks hun, I know exactly what you're saying, and I agree. Unfortunately, MH is messed up here, and they think if they lock you up and give you a cocktail of prescriptions *POOF* you'll be all better… it's a joke 😔

Exactly! I'm not looking for the answer right this moment, I'm lucid enough to realize that's not gonna happen. It's all a lot of pressure… It would be more helpful if it were as you just described, me being able to speak freely…

Your therapist's threshold for what she considers "high risk/involuntary hold" seems so low. My last few therapists were okay with me talking about suicidal ideation, but I couldn't ever admit to having my method on hand or how detailed my plan is. You might not have a good fit with this particular therapist if she can't meet you where you are at.

That's a great point… let me look into seeing if I can switch therapists. Find a better fit. Thanks for the advice ♡

It can be so much effort trying out new therapists, and it can take a couple sessions before you get a good feel for them. But no point in wasting time on an unhelpful one. Best of luck to you in your search.

I had the same experience. It was comforting to be able to speak a little more freely about how I was feeling. As you said, I just knew I couldn't talk about having a detailed plan in place (which I didn't at the time).

I know just what you mean. :(
And, I'm sorry, I didn't catch where you're from. I know MH laws aren't universal, so I apologize for assuming that we share the same ones

I avoid them by not attempting to get anymore treatment and using the excuse of not having any health insurance to further avoid seeing any.

The good news, you do not have to. They can say whatever they want, but you give it impoetance only if you choose to. You power whatever you want in life so. I myself would never say such thing to someone. They not in your shoes so of course it is simple for them to say to love it. I wouldn't even pay attention to people who has opinions like that. I can't ask anyone which is unhappy here to please be happy and love themselves, like if that was possible.

They say, "Get used to it." I say "I don't have to, I can leave anytime I choose!"
