Those of you who have been prescribed Xanax by a doctor, what reason did you come up with to get the medicine prescribed?

I get Ativan, but guess it is similar.

Panic attacks is always a good symptom to mention if you want something like that prescribed.

Told him I'd had a package for several years which is now almost empty and way past its expiry date (it was even true, but I had not acquired it due to the standard process ...). Said that I only use it for emergencies. My GP doesn't care much, so he was already prescribing it while I was still talking. He didn't even ask what emergencies. He knows I have depression, so I'd have said something along the lines of, when I can't endure the mental pain at all, or am in danger of becoming suicidal because of it and need to calm down my thoughts and feelings because they overwhelm me.

But this tactic is probably no good for regular use, and it will depend on the doctor.
Also agree that anxiety/panic attacks are a good explanation.

When I went back another time and said I desperately needed zolpidem (z-drug), he was wary though. gave me the smallest package and said he'd monitor how often I get it.

That makes no sense. Are you sure you don't confuse it? Xanax is addictive and with Zolpidem is necessary to take it every day.

Tysm for making this, I need help with this too, exept it's for my anxiety and I'll take anything that can help. (tbh I have no idea what xanax is for.) Btw, what if just having panic attacks isn't enough? What if the doctor is REALLY stubborn, how do I convince him then? I'm seeing a new doctor about it tomorrow and I want to be prepared bc my previous one was VERY stubborn about it and wouldn't give me shit, even after telling him my anxiety makes me hurt myself witch is actually true.

Don't need to take zolpidem everyday, not sure why you said that? I use it sometimes when I can't sleep but have to get up very early.
Z-drugs can also lead to addiction, as to what I've found. It had been denied in the past, but evidence is there. I use it because it has a very short half life and I have trouble falling asleep.

Xanax/alprazolam is a benzodiazepine. Mainly for anxiety disorders/panic attacks, states of severe tension and such. Danger of addiction and not supposed to be used all the time.

I need a medication like Xanax to help me overcome the survival instinct. I don´t have a psychiatric diagnosis so it won´t be easy, I guess. I don´t know a doctor in private life, which would be the best, of course, and the doctors aren´t happy to prescribe that kind of medicine where I live. Ordering from abroad without a prescription may result in the package getting caught at customs. I think that doctors have too much power. Medications should be easier to get hold of.

It's not really a lie ... I find explanations like that, that are close to the truth, are more convincing and communicated easier ...
