What should a good suicide letter include? I want to lessen the suffering of my family in any way I can but I'm having trouble finding the right words right now. I'm thinking of writing two - one where I detail my struggles with mental illness and why I chose to make this decision and a second where I just say how much I love them. The idea is they can keep the second to read when they miss me. Would this be a good idea or should I just stick with one? How long should I make them? Any advice is welcome.

I'm sorry you feel this way, but if you choose to do it: maybe you can write them on separate papers but put them together in one envelope?

People might try to find someone to blame and that could cause trouble in the family. I'll be asking them not to on mine. Just a suggestion.

That's a good idea thank you. I hate that I'm struggling so much writing this thing. I don't plan to ctb for a while yet because I'm still trying to source SN. I just want to have something prepared in case I'm ever in a really dark place and I end up doing something impulsive.

I feel you... Having a safe way out gives you a lot of peace. I've been sleeping much better after getting my emergency exit ready. The fear of doing something impulsive and ending up worse then we already are is awful...

It is up to you how many you should write and how long they should be, writing suicide notes is a personal decision, only you know what is the right thing for yourself. I plan to say things like there is nothing you could have done, and now I am at peace. It will give those left behind some closure and will mean they are not left with unanswered questions. Whatever happens, I wish you the best.

I don't think anyone can give you the 'right' answer here, ultimately you know best the people who are going to be reading the letter/s. Perhaps imagine if you were one of them, what would you want to read? Maybe thinking like that will help you figure it out.

I think PPeH talks about this some. You might read what they have to say about it.

Thank you all for your replies. I know it's so silly that i have writer's block stopping me from finishing my suicide note! I'm including everyone's suggestions and also planning to check out the PPeH now. I really appreciate all the responses.

There's no "perfect" suicide letter, just writing everything you never said and want to say.
