  • Hey Guest,

Would you give out your real name to people that you met through SS?

No and I'd advise everyone to do the same no matter how close you get to know someone. Because for example I'm not going to name names but there was a member on here I got to know and we talked about some drama she had with another member which happened about 2 years ago. Well come to find out she told me she got to become intimate with this other member especially since they lived in the same country. Well since they were both suicidal obviously the other person was planning on going to go through with it and they told her which was an big mistake. She then outed them to the authorities all because she loved them and didn't want to lose them and I don't know what happened to the other member after that besides that they stopped talking to the member I was talking to. And that was that. I was honestly surprised she told me all that but I guess she needed someone to talk to. But this is an example of why you shouldn't give your name out to anyone.

I already shared my real name with a few members. First name is no problem, I guess.

Sees the 22 votes for "No."

Welp, that's just my opinion. 👀

Only my first name, not more than that. Let's say I was named "Mathew Andrew Racke Hertz"; I would only let him/her know about "Mathew" and only if it's close enough of a person.

Actual real-life first name, sure, but then I'd be even more cautious about revealing anything related to my physical location beyond what country I live in. No pictures, no identifying information like where I might work or go to school, no voice chat, no social media. I might budge here or there if I'd been talking to the person consistently for like 9+ months and hadn't caught a whiff of dishonesty or deception.

I hate that I can't trust people here because it's sort of a lightning rod for sadists and deranged psychos who like fucking with vulnerable people. I know the vast majority of us (regular posters especially) are completely who we say we are, but I've just heard too many horror stories over the years about people letting their guard down and then having it bite them in the ass.

Mostly no, though I can't rule out the possibility entirely so I voted "other". I technically have given away my name (first only) to a former member already though.

You should never give out information like that online and especially not on a site where groups are out to get you (Pro lifers, LEOs, etc)

That being said, I don't think really anything impactful would happen by providing your name alone, but it's still a bad idea.

First name seems harmless. I can't understand why someone would want more than that unless they wanted to screw you over somehow.

Only if it was someone I got to know well through a lot of phone calls and decided to possibly meet in person- there is about a one in a billion chance of that since I want to keep this separate from people I know in person; but I do support those who find a partner who is a good fit to ctb with, like a few people have on this site.

I've met members of this forum in real-life and some people of this community have grown to be close friends. We trust each other and there is mutual respect. So yeah, there are a few people that know my first name and I know theirs. That's certainly a privilege though. My family name on the other hand is a secret.

No. To these people who voted 'Yes' : You shouldn't trust anyone online and thus give away your personal information. Even when it comes to seemingly silly information like revealing your real name. The less information you give to people on the internet, the better your safety is. There are so many hacking methods and scammers on the internet that you never know which information can be fatal.

As long as you don't give anyone your home address you don't trust, you'll be fine. But that is just a general rule for life.

Maybe.. not sure.. it really depends.. im not gonna give out my real name to just anyone (not to be rude or anything).. maybe after awhile if both sides feel comfortable sharing their first names then sure but not on the first couple times.. you should always be careful when it comes to such private information and details.. ofcoors if youre gonna meet someone you've only spoke online then first couple of times meet in a public area.. i wish i could meet some people from SS in real life but to be honest i dont think thatll ever happen with me.. im not as independent as id like to be and i still live with my family.. I've never been on an airplane by myself either.. i dont know if I'll ever see the day of people from SS coming to meet me.. i long for some social life.. if i ever got to meet people i befriend or more from SS id give em a hug ,id ask if its oks with them beforehand ofcoors to avoid any uncomfortableness etc ..i wish i met people from here cause people here understand me better n thats nice knowing

i dont think giving the name in it self is a bad idea as long as they cant tie it to a real person, i mean my name is Nicolas, there are like 100 millon people with that name, and you wont find anything here on me to tie my name to my actual self...see as long as you dont leave crumbles to the treasure you are safe, the real danger is to give your trust lightly, plus be aware of people urging you to give away data of any sort claiming any urgency for whatever reason
