Though it's always in the eye of the beholder. Some people might call my intentions (right to die, antinatalism, ctb) already insane.

Who is really "normal"? Everyone's fucked up, just in different ways. I just want to kill myself, not anyone or anything else, I'm about self destruction not harming others. Fully aware of what I'm doing. That's not insane. Bringing harm to other people intentionally...that's insane

I think my anxiety goes a bit too far sometimes, but I wouldn't say I'm insane or anything like that. Aside from my neurological problems, I think I'm in a pretty sound state of mind. I've just seen some parts of life that a lot of people like to ignore and get the option to, and I've realised that life is really shitty.

Legally speaking, I'm batshit, because in my chunk of the world anyone who seriously considers ending their lives for any reason is by definition bonkers. Move me to a different spot where people live by different laws, though, and my insanity is magically cured.

Mental and emotional pain is obviously real, and at times it is caused by real disease states. The profession we call "psychology" (and "psychiatry" is worse) is largely nonsense, however. Future brain specialists will look on our "mental health profession" the way modern doctors look at medieval students of Galen. (Got a serious wound that's become infected? Clearly, you need to lose more blood. Let's get out those knives!)

So while I'm sure there are doctors out there who would diagnose me as having one or more of any number of mentally incapacitating disorders, that means about as much as an Elizabethan physician telling me that eating an excess of salad has filled my blood with cold, wet humors, and that's what has made me feel miserable. (Salad is pretty gross, though.)

tl;dr: who knows, who cares

No.
I consider so-called advanced modern societies to be insane though.
----Born
----indoctrinated in school
----forced to work a meaningless job so corporations, states and banks can profit through taxes and other fiscal measures
----consume ephemeral products, gadgets and services which serves two main functions 1) be kept a docile and willing participant of the social order and 2) to create more wealth/profit for the big companies and multinationals which cut their production costs by exploiting the labor of poor people/children in poor countries through outsourcing and sweatshops
----vote in sham elections which never offer meaningful change
----notice how the media works to create social and political consensus so that the field of acceptable discourse and dissent operates within a narrow margin, so the interests of big banks and global fiscal organizations can be furthered
----witness civil liberties and freedoms being curtailed because of 'terrorism' and 'viruses'
----get informed about how millions of suffering animals are treated and killed in factory farms/slaughterhouses every year
----get constantly told how much of a 'gift' life is, how 'precious' it is, how suicide is some kind of evil act etc, which creates cognitive dissonance in light of all the former observations
----then you die, an insignificant event from the point of view of the wider society, since you will just be replaced by another cog which will generate a finite amount of surplus monetary value during its lifetime then will die in its turn

What an utterly insane system.
I just googled your first sentence to see if this thread would show up in the results.
It did not, but a variety of other interesting results appeared.
If you are intrigued, just google: "I consider so-called advanced modern societies to be insane though."

I've wondered that about myself, but I don't think I am. I believe I'm completely sane, just incredibly sad and exhausted. I do have mental conditions (OCD and depression), but the fact that I'm aware of that shows to me that I'm sane. What is sanity anyway? Being able to respond to external stimuli in a conventional way and/or being able to know what's real or not? I do the former just fine. And for the latter, I do that too, but can you ever be 100% sure what's real or not? I think the truly sane ones, know that they can't know anything. Socrates was a very wise man.

No. I see the world and humanity for what they are. I'm tired; so fucking tired. Unlike the world at large, I won't gaslight myself or anyone else for being human, and only capable of taking so much abuse. Something's gotta give. One could say it's purely a philosophical decision.

Hmm. The medical establishment acts that if you are insane then you have no right or less right to suicide. But what better reason to kill yourself than being insane. It's excruciating and to think of being back in that mental place terrifying. I'm stable and rational now but with a severe mood disorder, albeit that has taught me a lot. I have physical stuff going on too but it's the misery I experience which some may call depression or "insanity" makes me want to ctb more than the rest.

Not really.

Yes I have problems. Yes I have eventual psychotic episodes. But I know this is not the absolute reality.
I don't hallucinate or believe the government spies on me or that they secretly poison every tin of baked beans I buy or that they control me by sending electric rays through my coffee machine. Nor do I think I am half human, half angel or that God sent me to fulfill his revenge either :blarg:

So... though I would certainly not qualify for "being normal", I am probably not clinically insane. (Though this doesn't tell much, all the fools claim they are sane :nomouth:)

Crazy is a relative term. Crazy to one is normal to another. So I appear completely nuts to some folks and sane to others. I really don't like those labels but they are what they are.

Not insane now, but when I was in the throes of my crystal meth addiction, I experienced psychotic episodes during which I did a lot of things that I would consider to be insane. Now, when I look back on that chapter of my life, I just cringe in disgust. Makes me want to ctb even more.
