  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

I think that would depend on what laws are in effect in your country of residence? But I'm gonna give a wild guess and say that no, it will not work. If society respected people's choices in this matter, you wouldn't be sent to the psych ward just for saying you want to CTB. Well, couldn't hurt though.

You're talking about "advance directive". When I got my first aid certificate, I was told to look at any visible tattoos in case of DNR (Do not resuscitate) advance directive. Once we see that, we have to stop immediately even if they're dying. This technicality may vary from jurisdiction. I'm from Canada, and that's how it works here. Unfortunately, we were not told of the exceptions, so I assume if someone is in the middle of choking, found DNR tattoo and a suicide letter on the table, I'll stop helping. I'll rather opt to call an ambulance, to cover my bases.

I doubt this is legally binding in most jurisdictions. If I were a first responder, I'd resuscitate you anyway, as there would hardly be any repercussions for doing so, but there would be severe repercussions for not resuscitating if it later turned out I was supposed to.

Moreover, even if the bracelet is legally binding, I think many people, especially non-professionals, will simply ignore it and try to rescue you regardless.

The only secure way to avoid being rescued is privacy.

From the medical trining that I had from first aid in my country (Serbia) we are told that we have to help anyone in need no matter what (unless like person is beyond hope for life) and if you do not u might be criminally responsible (I read it in my first aid book). So if I saw that I'd have to ignore it and proceed with first aid.

In the US, the bracelet would not preclude resuscitation efforts.

In my country, you can submit an electronic "living will", and the examples they give include doctors who wrote DNAR (do not attempt resuscitation) in theirs, so I'd like to imagine it'd work here at least.

You need official paperwork, also not sure if any dnr would be valid in the case of suicide.
