I'm wondering because I've played the lotto my whole life as a little grasp of hope I could turn it all around. People say money can't buy happiness...while that may be true for some people...maybe even a majority...but in reality, money could love a lot of fucking problems for a lot of people. I have no way of knowing where my next meal comes from. I have no promised roof over my head. I'm sorry, but a endless supply of money WOULD solve most of my problems. Am I a piece of shit for thinking that? Or is it a more common solution then we would like to admit? Money makes the world go round. It does, I fucking hate it, but it does. It all comes back to money. So I'm just curious, could a infinite amount of money make you happy and not want to die?

How much would it take to cure/fix my depression and anxiety and reverse the brain damage done by a humble little virus?

I have no idea how many high profile suicides there have been in the last 19 yrs, but it would appear, that no amount of money was able to fix/cure the mental illnesses that drove these people to take their own lives. Wealth did not bring happiness into the lives of these people. Anyone who associates wealth with happiness is delusional.

$1, $100, $1000, $100,000 is not going to make me jump out of my chair, run around the room shouting wooooot and solve all my issues, to even pretend it might is folly.

"Money can't buy you happiness but it does bring you a more pleasant form of misery." ― Spike Milligan

Now this is interesting for me right now, I've been struggling finances, haven't worked for five years, one of the things that's led me to utter despair, realising that I'm too broken to even support myself. Just had in the last month two very unexpected windfalls, which would significantly boost my finances. Would be about £20k sometime this year and around another £21 over next five. For someone that's only ever worked minimum wage or below that's huge. Thing is I haven't taken it up as I don't intend to be alive much longer.

Fucking sods law, five years ago it Might have been enough to set me on a different path and possibly save me. Although have a suspicion I'd always be a head case wherever and whatever.

Why would I entertain a notion that is never going to materialize? Might aswell pose the question: if god came down from the heavens and took away all your woes would you still be suicidal?

You are absolutely not a piece of shit for thinking that. Money CAN buy you anything. It can buy you good therapy to work on your mental health problems. A steady source of income also ensures that you can pay the bills and feed yourself while you work on therapy. You also won't have to worry about the stress of working 60-70 hours a week while doing therapy.

I don't care what people say. Everything has a price tag, including happiness.

Yes. Most of my problems would be solved and those that wouldn't be would become soluble or at least manageable. They nearly all come from poverty as it is. I would get a small parcel of land, have a nice concrete pad poured, and make a "tiny house" on it with both grid hookup and solar power. Furnish it functionally but not luxuriously. Invest most of the rest. And just try to heal.

Money can buy you a lot of things but not time and not health once medical science has exhausted itself. Nor love for that matter. I agree enough money is a necessary ingredient of happiness but it's not sufficient as there are rich people who still kill themselves or are severely unhappy. What good does a lot of money do if you're chronically and incurably depressed or schizophrenic?

Enough money for my own place and income enough to live even fairly simply outside the rat race would be enough for me.

I have no problems that money can solve. But with it perhaps I can finally solve the world's.

No. Never. There is no amount of money that could heal me. Even if I had a million dollars I would be just as miserable, in fact it would probably make me feel even worse. I think money is the source of humanity's problems, not the solution

Yes it would go a long way. I could try medical treatments to cure my tinnitus that are years away from FDA approval then I would at least have a chance at beating this. Not only that if it would be a truly unlimited supply of money then I could fund many trials to come up with a cure for my tinnitus.

That is an idea, and a very positive one for somebody with 1,300 posts to a suicide forum. For the last 3 months my ears have been ringing 24/7 and my life would certainly be improved if there were a cure for tinnitus. Unfortunately, tinnitus is only one of countless problems and fixing that one thing would still leave so many other unresolved issues.

Well tinnitus is my main problem right now. I do have other problems like central sensitization in my foot, and some depression, stuttering, digestive problems, among others, but I didn't want to turn my post into a laundry list of things that are wrong with me.

Though I suppose I should clarify that I plan on ending my life when I am an old man, but that if my tinnitus get worse then I will have to prematurely end my life.

Having a heap of money would not fix anything but it sure would make for one less thing to worry about. I was never of the "What? Me worry?" school of thought.

I think it would solve a lot of things, yes, but as far as the long term and other things that money can't buy or fix, I'd still want to CTB. The only difference is that I get to enjoy some vices in life a bit more and have more options and flexibility in when, where, and how I want to CTB.

The fact that money can buy you happiness doesn't automatically mean that you'll choose happiness over death. I know that my mental health problems are curable. I also know that my professional incompetence is fixable. However, therapy and professional growth are exhausting and need hard work. Suicide is easier. It's all about the balancing. Money can buy you therapy and resources, but that doesn't mean that you don't have to do the work. For some people, the work isn't worth it. It's easier to just die and not have to hustle through the hard work that is treatment (and in my case professional competence).

I know that my mental health problems are curable.

I'm curious how you could know that? For example, someone who's depressed could afford ketamine infusions if they had the money. Though that may or may not resolve their depression.

.I just feel so greedy and ashamed by thinking money could solve my issues..because I honestly think it would

For what it's worth, I don't think there is anything 'greedy' or 'ashamed' about this. It's how the world we live in, functions. For a very large part at least.

George is this part of your reason for being here? Tinnitus? It's one of my many ailments but mine is severe sensory nerve damage and a hundred other problems which make you want to escape yourself constantly. Did you ever get a reason for yours - other than imbeciles trying to blame everything on mental health.
