  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

It's not that easy to get tho. While I was living in Canada I couldn't get it. Unless it changed.

It has changed. I know someone who is applying now and she only has depression.

With how absolute garbage our healthcare system is you'll probably die of old age before you can get access to MAID. In fact, MAID's probably just them going ''Dying waiting for treatment isn't a bug, it's a feature ! It just works, 16 times the dying''.

Well applying is one thing - getting approved is a whole different story. I recall that you must go through couple interviews with different doctors, and they both must give their consent in order to proceed.

It has changed. I know someone who is applying now and she only has depression.
That application won't be accepted if depression is the only condition.

From the govt site:
If you have a mental illness as your only medical condition, you are not eligible to seek medical assistance in dying. Under the new changes made to the law, Canadians who fall under this category are excluded from seeking MAID. This exclusion remains in effect until March 17, 2023.

This temporary exclusion allows the Government of Canada more time to consider how MAID can safely be provided to those whose only medical condition is mental illness.

To support this work, the government will initiate an expert review to consider protocols, guidance and safeguards for those with a mental illness seeking MAID, and will make recommendations within a year (by March 17, 2022).

After March 17, 2023, people with a mental illness as their sole underlying medical condition will have access to MAID if they are eligible and the practitioners fulfill the safeguards that are put in place for this group of people.

If you have a mental illness along with other medical conditions, you may be eligible to seek MAID.

Eligibility is always assessed on an individual basis, looking at all of the relevant circumstances. However, you must meet all the criteria to be eligible for medical assistance in dying.

So in short, if you only suffer from mental illness you will be waiting until 2023 at a minimum, and that is assuming that this update to MAID doesn't get pushed back or neutered for whatever reason. And that you can even meet all the mental health criteria and safe guards (whatever they may be, as nothing is established yet) that will be put in place by then.

Yes, I have heard that it can be hard to be accepted. At least people in Canada do have it as an potential option, it is not legal at all where I live. I see the right to die as important, it isn't as if we have any obligation to stay alive as we did not ask to exist.

Canada is like a slightly less shitty America. That's a good enough reason to learn French and get a job at an international corporation to hopefully transfer there though

Canada is the most overrated country on earth. Fucking hate this anti-freedom, authority loving frozen shitheap. Everything here costs a fortune and the healthcare system is not even close to as good as the propaganda would have you believe. I wouldn't be able to tell you the last time there was a riot here that wasn't related to fucking hockey, people here just sit and take whatever bullshit the government dumps on them with a smile. Nothing but fucking cowards and sycophants, the whole country was created to benefit Ontario and Quebec at the expense of the rest of us. Taxed to fucking oblivion for it to be wasted on frivolous nonsense

Lmao yeah if you jump through hoops for like years or something. Hardly makes up for everything I listed that you didn't address, how horribly authoritarian the government is, how we have a fucking trustfund baby glee club pussy as a leader who is only there because his daddy was, and a sickeningly subservient population that worships Marxism. Try saying you want to kill yourself and see where you end up; you will likely even have something on your record that disallows you from getting certain jobs. So sick of leftist Americans glorifying this pinko shithole without ever having lived here

I know. It's terrible that mental illness as the sole reason is being rejected, with the excuse being they're protecting the vulnerable. If someone with a mental illness is considered competent enough to vote, drive, work, etc..., then they should be able to make the decision to die without pain and suffering. I'm sure the vast majority of people with mental illness don't want to end their life, but once someone does, help them to do so.

Omg thank you for posting this. I have tried posting things like this (ie the truth) but eventually just gave up because I could see that tptb are really intent on and have thus been successful in brainwashing the world into thinking canarda is somehow a model to be looked up to. You dropped a truth bomb that almost sounds like you're reading my mind, thank you so much. People will never fully appreciate that the only thing canada is actually good at is branding itself as everything it's not. Preach it brother!
Re MAiD if you find the right doctor (easier in ontario) and have additional problems along with mental you can still get it. Holistic cumulative was validated by an ontario judge and was never appealed by gov't. If you're in perfect physical (and social? haha kidding: they won't go there anytime soon) health then no choice but to wait and see in 2023. They'll probably design it to be similar but slightly easier than the most liberal set-up in Europe, which will still be hard to access but doable if you're determined and/or find good doctors/advocates.
