Will this work or should I keep trying for a prescription antiemetic?

Hello all. I plan to take my SN in the next few months. I unfortunately wasn't able to get a prescription for meto. But I do have some otc meds that I read people have used here and been successful in the past. To list those meds here are the following. Dramamine, tagamet, and Excedrin extra strength. The Excedrin is just for the headache. I figured it would work better then ibuprofen. Now I plan to follow Stan's guide with these Otc meds if I don't get meto at my next appointment. Will this work as long as I'm not found for at least 8 hours?

Tagamet is often used. If you don´t get Meto, you can also use Domperidone, which is easier to get. Another otc drug is Diphenhydramin(chlorid). The latest PPH also suggests Diazepam.

Dramamine (anti-nausea) and Tagamet (anti-acid) should work.

Excedrine may not necessarily be best though.
It contains aspirin (that's an acid, so it makes the job of Tagamet harder).
It also contains caffeine which could increase the heart racing that you'll feel from the SN.

I would go with ibuprofen only.

Thank you for your reply. I'm going back to my psychiatrist in a few weeks I seen Risperidone acts as an antiemetic in part of the PPH. I used to be prescribed that in the past and I think there's a chance I'll get that. I'm not sure if I can combine that med with the otcs I have though. I guess I could do some searching before suggesting that specific med to them. Anyway thanks again.

Thank you so much for the feedback I really appreciate it. I was hesitant on the Excedrin at first but bought just in case. Is there any other OTC med that works better then ibuprofen I could use that you know of? If not I'll just have to settle with that if it comes down to it.

Seroquel (Quetiapine) is also an option apparently. It affects the same GABA receptors as Meto or Dom, so you don't want to take both at the same time.

I highly suggest not asking for Meto from a psychiatrist. This is something a GP would prescribe, but is out of the scope of psychiatric treatment.

It's like trying to buy apples at a hardware store.

You have a better chance if you go to a walk-in clinic and tell them a fib about travel sickness and nothing else works other than Meto or Dom.

I was actually prescribed Seroquel for almost a decade for sleep and bipolar from a psychiatrist. In my experience with it it'll work quite well too make the process smoother. I guess if all else fails I can do the walk in clinic thing. I'll start thinking of a story like how I did to get my inhaler lol. I just told them I was having breathing troubles and used my grandpas inhaler for a week and it helped me so they gave me a prescription for one.

Yup. They will do that much easier if they can see that you have access, have tried it, it helped and there were no side effects. works well if you say "I'd like to go on day trips with friends but I get car sick".
If they suggest some other drug (like Dramamine) the counter argument could be "but that makes me tired and we want to go for a hike".
