well i have a 10mm polypropylene rope with a 50kg/110lbs wll and i'm 65kg/145lbs so the rope holds roughly 3/4 of my weight should i be concerned if i intend to use it for psh? the tensile strength or breaking point should be 6-7 times the working load limit so around 300 kg and since most of my body would be supported on the floor as i will be in a kneeling down position there shouldn't be any problem right? i mean it's only going to last 30 mins max so i don't think anything will snap during that period?

i've seen people succeed with more improvised setups like sketchy anchors and ropes but users here say that both the rope and anchor should support your full weight which is reasonable but the only store near me had ropes with a 50kg limit and the ones with higher capacity are usually made with nylon which people here say is too stretchy or come in very big spools not easy to conceal or bring home and ordering online is a hassle where i live

btw is there a reliable way to test my anchor? some users said suspending from my anchor or doing pullups is a good testing method but i don't know if that's a good way to test something that should theoretically hold only a portion of my weight i tried to do one and it held without a problem (it didn't shake) but i don't know if doing a bunch of pullups may weaken it or apply more weight than the one it's intended to hold, considering i'm doing partial hanging

and finally i had to cut a piece of my rope with a knife but i didn't melt the ends, so they frayed should i be concerned? only the ends are frayed the rest of the rope is still intact, chatgpt recommended melting it but said that as long as the main body of the knot doesn't rely on the frayed ends i should be fine but idk

I wish i had some idea on this to guide you..
When i attempted partial, i used the handle of my bathroom door and used the top of the door to act as the main point from where my neck would hang. I felt dizzy once. But nothing after that. Another fellow member said that he used belt of bathroom robe and tied it slightly above the Adam's apple that's when he experienced blackout.

thank you for replying
i'm planning to use my shower door rail as my anchor and i've already tested it and felt dizzy pretty quickly but the position of the rope isn't the problem

what concerns me is that i have rope with a working load limit of around 50kg which is the normal or recommended usage but i'm above that weight
but considering that's just a working load limit and not the breaking point of the rope and also the fact that i'll not be fully suspended just partially and only need it to work for aprox 30 mins makes me think it will work but i just wanted to make sure nothing wrong will happen

i know that ideally it should be able to hold my full weight but due to my circumstances this is the best i can do at least for now and know there's a possibility of failure with my current setup/materials but i think there's a higher chance of success than of failure

If we look at how lot of people including teenagers CTB in India, they choose FSH. So, I think, while it may not be that smooth journey to peace, but i think it's a sure shot way to peace, and if it's done properly, the blackout happens in few seconds and the rest is just the time it takes to finally depart.

Considering that, i feel you are right, there are high chances for success. And you are going for PSH, so that's even better. The rope will not be under so much strain.

@AreWeWinning @JesiBel sorry for pinging but you guys seem very knowledgeable about fsh/psh
could you share your opinion on this? is it a bad idea or are the chances of ctb with my current setup realistic?

i tried this for the entirety of last week the most recent being yesterday (i think or two days before i cant keep up anymore with time). the last one was the most promising where i got convulsions and lost control of my body but i was still aware and regained control and got out. psh was my backup plan originally but it seems its hard to get it to work at least for me so im thinking of ordering sn again.

These are reasonable questions, and I understand your dilemma. I'm not sure I have any good answers, but here is what I think.

well i have a 10mm polypropylene rope with a 50kg/110lbs wll and i'm 65kg/145lbs so the rope holds roughly 3/4 of my weight should i be concerned if i intend to use it for psh? the tensile strength or breaking point should be 6-7 times the working load limit so around 300 kg and since most of my body would be supported on the floor as i will be in a kneeling down position there shouldn't be any problem right? i mean it's only going to last 30 mins max so i don't think anything will snap during that period?

i've seen people succeed with more improvised setups like sketchy anchors and ropes but users here say that both the rope and anchor should support your full weight which is reasonable but the only store near me had ropes with a 50kg limit and the ones with higher capacity are usually made with nylon which people here say is too stretchy or come in very big spools not easy to conceal or bring home and ordering online is a hassle where i live

The reason it's recommended to use a rope that can support your full body weight is that body convulsions can put additional force on the rope. It's not possible to predict how violent (or non-violent) your involuntary body movements will be after you lose consciousness.

Your logic is sound, and a rope that can support part of your body weight should, in theory, work for partial hanging. Unfortunately, I don't have any good advice. It's a question of how certain you want to be that your setup will work. Personally, I would want to be 100% certain, and this is why I would only use a rope that could support my full weight, even for partial hanging. Would your rope work? Probably yes. Would I recommend using it? No. I know this is not what you wanted to hear. :/ Keep in mind, though, that this is just my personal opinion. You are free to make your own choices.

The strength of your rope. Regarding the load limit of your rope, I wonder what kind of polypropylene rope it is that has a WLL of only 50 kg (110 lbs). A 10 mm polypropylene rope is supposed to be stronger than that. Are you sure it's 10 mm (about 3/5 inch) in diameter? Are you sure you've read the label correctly and it isn't in fact stronger?

Doubling up the rope. If you decide that it's too risky to use your current rope as is, you could double it up. Like, you could fold it up, and tie all the knots with two parallel ropes, if that makes sense. It'll be a bit thick and a bit awkward, but it's a possible option that may be worth trying.

Nylon ropes. In general, nylon ropes are stretchier, indeed. But this also depends on the rope's construction, quality, length, and load capacity. As an example, static climbing ropes are often made of nylon and are very low stretch. Even if it isn't a static climbing rope, just a regular twisted nylon rope, it could be okay. For hanging, you'll typically use a very short rope that's stronger then necessary, so even a nylon rope might not stretch too much. If you have access to good, strong nylon ropes, they might be worth considering.

btw is there a reliable way to test my anchor? some users said suspending from my anchor or doing pullups is a good testing method but i don't know if that's a good way to test something that should theoretically hold only a portion of my weight i tried to do one and it held without a problem (it didn't shake) but i don't know if doing a bunch of pullups may weaken it or apply more weight than the one it's intended to hold, considering i'm doing partial hanging

Again, this is a question of how certain you want to be that your anchor point won't break. If you can do pull-ups on it and it doesn't break when you yank on it with your full weight, then you can be fairly certain it won't break during partial suspension.

Yes, weakening it is a valid concern. This is exactly the point of testing, though. You want to weaken it and break it before your attempt. If you are unable to weaken it or break it, it won't break during your attempt either. However, if you don't test it and don't try, you can never be sure. You can only guess and speculate.

I understand what you're saying: in theory, your anchor point doesn't need to support your full weight, because you're only doing partial suspension. However, my logic is that I'd want to avoid a failed attempt at all costs, so I'd rather over-plan. If I had the slightest doubt about my anchor point, I would either test it thoroughly or not use it.

and finally i had to cut a piece of my rope with a knife but i didn't melt the ends, so they frayed should i be concerned? only the ends are frayed the rest of the rope is still intact, chatgpt recommended melting it but said that as long as the main body of the knot doesn't rely on the frayed ends i should be fine but idk

Yeah, it should be fine. It just looks ugly and it will slowly keep fraying if you keep using it for practicing knots or as you move the rope around. I'd make a clean cut and melt the end. It's easy to do. It won't catch on fire like a piece of paper or something.
