As far as I know, what really matters is making sure there isn't food in your stomach messing up the absorption (fasting for a minimum of 8 hours, or ideally up to 2 days, and going a few hours without liquid), so I wouldn't imagine having a fat belly would be an issue. But I'm far from an expert and I'd like to hear what someone more knowledgeable has to say.
