Why does mental illness have to take over like this?

Why do you think it can't be cured? Like how can thoughts create so much pain and even once the thoughts are rectified how can we not improve?

I don't know the answer. Our thoughts really are capable of torturing us. I believe that being depressed can be perfectly rational in a world like this, it does not necessarily mean that the person is ill, it is the life circumstances that are the problem. There is so much suffering in this world and it is so depressing. This life really is so cruel and unfair.

Short answer, there really is no answer. Long answer—certain genes being expressed in the presence of certain environmental conditions, etc. At some point in the future, with advances in genetic interventions, and the ability to more accurately and effectively interact with the brain—all sorts of psychological conditions will disappear. I quite believe we'll develop the capacity to "reprogram" the brain.

That's a good question. I have been battling mental illness (severe depression and anxiety) all my life. Suicidal for about 5 years. Society made it 10 times worse. I am now waking up (most days now) feeling more tempted and determined to end it all soon. I also realised that all I am doing is pretending to myself that things can turn around but deep down inside I know that things are going to get a whole lot worse. Time to die!
