  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

I've seen so much hatred and demonization of this site across all sort of media.

And it's wrong.

This is probably one of the most effective support networks I've ever seen for people with depression and suicidal ideation and it's probably saved more people that it's assisted to ctb.

And I say this why?

I've been a member of AA for a while. It's a group of peers supporting each other.

No amount of medical education or training can ever prepare you to support those who I call have cancer of the soul, unless you have the same condition yourself.

Although I respect those who work on suicide hotlines and prevention schemes, they are just so many well-meaning amateurs.

We have AA, NA, etc. Why not SA?

Sorry for the rant. Love you all.

That's actually a very good question. I can guess why—people don't readily admit suicidality for fear of triggering the usual, lock-'em-up protocols. Legal issues would be another. Lastly, suicide is generally considered a product of mental illness, so you're told to see psychiatry and those support groups. Dunno.

I think that many people on this site benefit from validating their feelings, rather than the alienation of a psychologist or doctor telling you that your thoughts and feelings are a sickness that needs to be amputated. Being in despair is a human expression, as much as love, or hate. Being so fragile and vulnerable is what makes human beings so beautiful.

Suicide is deeply poetic in that sense, in that you take on the pain of the world and end your own life rather than seeking vengeance.

I believe that it is important to have somewhere where our right to die is respected. I see the right to die as being very important. Suicide should not be so stigmatised in society. Wanting suicide can be perfectly rational in a life like this and it is an individual choice, we all have the right to exit this world at a time of our own choosing and nobody else has any say in it.

I really think the philosophical conversations that can happen here are meaningful and I wish they happened outside of this little space. Considering how taboo it is to discuss elsewhere, and our thoughts and feelings are so pathologized, it just creates a unique opportunity to engage with people who understand something the average person doesn't. It would be nice if these conversations could be more open, I find they have helped me.
