Why just mental illness? Let's please not forgot those dying miserably, with no end of suffering in sight except the quickest death possible.

I think most people here acknowledge both mental and physical ailments should be legal reasons to ctb.

Why just mental illness for what... I'm not sure I understand. But it is cruel how the society expects people to suffer for decades and denies people the option of a peaceful exit even if they are in unbearable pain.

There are more illnesses than mental illness. People are dying of respiratory, heart, kidney, immunity, etc, etc. diseases for which there is no cure or any medical treatments which worsen with pain, loneliness and increasing disabilities. and are left to an increasing torturous death. Don't they deserve a peaceful ending as well?

Yes of course, it is cruel how people are expected to die a slow painful death. However I thought that people with physical illnesses had a higher chance of being accepted for euthanasia (in countries where it is legal) than those with mental illnesses, but maybe I am wrong.

Yes, even in Australia it is possible for people with terminal physical illnesses to apply for euthanasia.

There is dignitas in Switzerland, expensive and long complication application process. In the states, there is very few "assisted suicide" opportunities difficult to obtain

Why just mental illness
And of course its not uncommon for the mind to affect the body or body affect the mind. My physical disease has hammered me mentally. And theres lots of people who have seen physical decline connected to mental health. Humans are complicated creatures. The.world.would be a better place if we were butterflies and owels. Humankind 's intelligence has not served us well.

Absolutely correct, well said, medically. I have a hard time watching "human intelligence" create the mess the world is in now

Somewhere, in the introduction to the site, it says, don't recall the exact words, that this is a site for support and discussion about "mental Illness", There are other causes for suicidal ideation.

Especially the terminally ill deserve medical assistance in dying. Other groups trying to categorize themselves similarly only delay the adoption of medical aid in dying options for those most in need--people overwhelmingly support aid in dying for the terminally ill in Western countries.

I suggested before that there should be a section here devoted solely to the terminally ill, where those who are dying can discuss their matters. Mental or chronic illnesses are completely different issues from terminal illness, where death is not a choice.

There was one here before, but, for some reason unknown to me, participation was lax. Assisted Suicide was defeated in NY recently, but was approved for another state. The restrictions are so stringent though.

Would actually agree with this point regarding separate sections of the forum but would widen it - imo there is a huge chasm of difference, and therefore understanding, between those who are suicidal due to illness or disability and those who are not. The fundamental difference is that one person wants to live but is unable to, the other is perhaps more "able" to but does not want to. That's a crude distinction admittedly, but it's very difficult for those two people to fundamentally understand each other. I'd be very much in favour of a separate section along these lines but it would be very difficult to draw the final dividing line.

I take it one step further. Why just illnesses? The healthy have a right to die. This forum isn't ignorant of the fact, of course, but so many people just can't accept that a person of sound body and mind would opt to die.
