Its deeply engrained in society that you ought to be a useful member.
Quitting is not following that dogma, its a bit like deserting the army.
I do believe though one should carefully consider before ending one's life, as this is a decision
that cannot be undone.
Sometimes there might be a way out of misery, when there are no hard facts
established yet, such as: ( to name a few ):
incurable illness
severe mental issues
having lost most or all meaningful aspects of life ( partner, job, being able to socialise etc )
I oppose vehemently the right of society to 'taboo" the fact that some members simply want to check out, as they have
thought long and hard about it and see good reason to do so.

I do suspect a substantial part of the taboo suicide faces has to do with underlying ethical or religious beliefs.
In Ancient Greece suicide was no problem and widely practised, but Christianity - in its heartwarming plight for the underdog - stuffed
things up for good with its - sorry for saying it - demented and hypocritical theology, which still is the underlying basis of many Western countries belief systems.
Saying that: other religions don't like suicide either, so lets say: wherever religion is involved suicide and the mentioning of it is nearly always considered being taboo.

Because, when they hear that you are suicidal, then you burst society's happy little bubble and make people question the meaning of life, and most of them don't want to admit that life is pointless.
To some people you also appear selfish and immoral, you throw away God's gift and blah blah... You know, typical pro life nonsense.

Poisoning was very common to both men and women but equally popular in both sexes was also hanging and falling from a high in order to reach death. Stabbing a sword in the body for self killing was widespread in men and soldiers.

I guess it's because people just expect us to live for the sake of living. They feel that it is a necessity. Society is shit.

Heh I've been warned numerous times in video games because I'll often say in public chats that I hate myself and want to die. Or when people start flaming me I'll say "well don't worry I'll be dead soon anyway".

Always get reports and warnings for it

People don't want their comfort and fun interrupted by suffering.

I also think people are massively... what's the word..... dis......... that thing where people are emotionally disinhibited because of overexposure to something ie death or violence. I feel a lot of people are that way nowadays. If I tell ppl I hate myself and want to die, all they feel is annoyance that their comfortable life has been disturbed by me. That is their primary feeling and it fucking sucks. I know it because even I feel the same way sometimes, I'm just as much scum as the scum that I call scum!

Unfortunately the special good people are massive minority.

I couldn't agree more. Life is pointless and what's the point of suffering long than I have too? The world isn't made for someone like me. I hate when people try to convince me on why I shouldn't end my life and tell me I'm young and have a lot more life ahead of me and all that other bs. I try living a Little longer only to be disappointed. Life sucks and is unfair. Bad things happen to good people and there's no such thing as karma. I've been shitted on for most of my life.

Because it might cause people to think it may be true for their own lives. Better to stuff death in the closet and pretend it doesn't exist.
