why is dmc a secret?

this isnt a request as i already know what dmc stands for, but i was wondering why the real name is hidden from new members? i know that its a thing here that you have to build up trust first, and ive heard people say that they wont dm the name because of superstition. is it to be cautious encouraging something like buying sn to strangers? is it to stop outsiders from getting the name to someone who would try and shut sources down...? ive also heard that news outlets have reported on it already and its not that hard to just look it up on a private browser (which is what i did)

Its for all of the things you mentioned it's not a perfect solution but it stops some people who can't be bothered to research for 5 minutes and it helps stop people CTB on impulse

Because PUBLICLY posting it like you've stated would put the nature of this site and likely DMC, in jeopardy. I understand what you mean re: media but keep in mind the location of DMC, they have bigger things going on at the moment. People are also guarded because with every influx of new members, like yourself, the more the likelihood goes up of someone having shitty intentions. Not referring directly to you as I don't know you. Just giving some context.

yeah, probably. i dont know how long its been there but they do have a warning on the site now. i only have heard superstition from two people though so take my words with a grain of salt (lol)

I think it's to try and prevent pro lifers from shutting the SN site down since there are pro lifers lurking in the shadows here to try and get any and all peaceful methods banned since they're pro suffering and want us to suffer

I doubt 5 minutes stop an impulsive attempt tbh + shipping isn't instant.

I doubt that it does much good. It's not hard to figure out the names of the sources used on here. There are enough of clues dropped in the posts on here to figure it out fairly easy. It doesn't really matter how long someone's been a member on here or how many posts they write. You still don't know who they really are and anybody can make up a story. I would be more suspicious of someone who has been on here for awhile and starts asking for sources or asking basic questions about methods. If they have been on here awhile, they should know these things. If people don't want sources to be shut down, they should stop giving the names of sources out to others.
