What Really Matters Anymore?

  • Around 1 in 6 people 60 years and older experienced some form of abuse in community settings during the past year.
  • Rates of abuse of older people are high in institutions such as nursing homes and long-term care facilities, with 2 in 3 staff reporting that they have committed abuse in the past year.
Why would anyone want to rot in a nursing home?

It isn't that people want to rot in them, but that they're so stuck to life that they've no alternative.

I won't allow it, myself. If probability dictates that I one day am too old to care for myself, then I will CTB promptly.

Who am I kidding? It'll probably happen much sooner than that.

I just don't see the point in any of it anymore.

I am in my late 60s and worked in a nursing home. There is no way l am going into one, l would rather burn out than rust. My method of choice is eb with nitrogen, l also have SN if anything goes wrong

A solid choice, no doubt. I'm also privy to the inert gas.

You are over twice my age and seem prepared to do what is necessary. Tell me, was it worth it for you (now that you've the hindsight) to see out another 30-40 years?

I'm in my mid 60's and I'm with you in what you said. There's no way in hell I'll end up in one of those places and be at the mercy of some sadistic "care" worker. To be honest I'll have finished myself off way before then anyway. I'm having trouble keeping going this week let alone in a few years time.

caregivers can even suck for ppl with money. getting older is so hard, i'm not there yet but have worked as a caregiver and, it's heartbreaking and backbreaking. and it sucks when services don't support seniors (or the severely overworked help) and they get to a point where there is literally no other option but a care home. ugh. i mean, if my life didn't suck i would prolly age until my physical and cognitive abilities decline to the point that i can't enjoy whatever i'm doing, or do what i want to. it's tricky tho, cuz can't really predict something happening at any given point and immediately needing full time care. i'll always have a ctb method ready, even if i'm not doing it for a long time :)

That is really horrific, I'm not even surprised that humans continue to create so much harm all for the sake of it. But the thought of old age absolutely disturbs me, I don't get why anyone would wish to decay from old age in this disgusting flesh prison. Suicide is certainly the more appealing option no matter what for me.

I'm in the same boat. Even just being old without being in a care home sounds horrfiying for me. Plus, I can't even enjoy anything anymore like watching tv shows.

Like when I see a young actor in a show I instanly feel sad knowing they get old too. (That sad feeling is hard to explain for me)

Don't care what anybody says but it's hard getting older and especially with mental issues in top. ♥️

Even though l have had some exceptionally great times there has been more dark days than good, so for that no, l wish l could have checked out sooner.
Always thought life is a black comedy with a few laughs thrown in along the way ♥️

Agree with everyone - even if we had lots of money it would likely be the same horror outcome. The reality is that the young and old are of no value to society, the government, and corporations ...... unless they are consumers, can be trafficked, or profited on for care.

I hear you and completely agree. When l worked in the nursing home and my favorite residents passed away l was so happy for them, knowing that they were released from the capsule of a body they were in was such a relief.
Hopefully l have my faculties about me so l can ctb before l end up in one, it's such a scary thought 🙄

Exactly - if you want people not to CTB, try to stop it in other ways then locking them up in a mental institute

@Ruma et al

Do you think I might die quicker in a UK care / nursing home?

I'm trapped.

My SO is ctb gatekeeper after 2x failed attempts (+ some type of npd)

🙏

It depends on whether you give up on yourself or not. Some residents come in and last only a matter of weeks, whereas some come in and hold on for years. I'm sorry you are facing going in one,I wouldn't wish it on my worse enemy.
