We've created an artificial environment/system that humans haven't evolved to cope with. Modern society is like poison to the soul. Early hunter-gatherer societies had way more leisure time than we do now, we weren't meant to work these absurd hours.

Also, human brains are wired to be useful to their tribe. Now nobody is useful, everyone is expendable and replaceable, so that brain circuit isn't being exercised. Suicide is like apoptosis, the same way a cell kills itself because it isn't useful to the full organism, humans kill themselves because they're not useful to their tribe.

Labels. For example a personality disorder is seen by the public as a person to avoid instead of support. It's everywhere and what makes it worse is how everyone who contemplates ctb is automatically a sociopath or a narcissist.
Everyone is expected to look perfect, look at how many people have plastic surgery lip fillers, if you have any imperfections society wont accept you.

It's true. Very well put. The problem is we feel useless. The social environment doesn't require your help anymore.

Off topic but I like how people assume the past was any better, the present is nothing compared to it. After studying history for most of my pathetic life since it's my favorite subject, or used to be anyway, I can say for certain that the vast majority of humans suffered more immensely and senselessly than we do now. One small example that makes our time any better is having the luxury of being able to talk about suicide openly let alone having access to somewhat peaceful methods that didn't exist before. The list is endless on all the injustices and the shit people did to each other. I could go on and on about it but people still like to believe being in a hunter gatherer society would be any better when most of the time they were occupied with trying to survive and quite frankly I still think an existence like that is just as hurtful and pointless. It looks good on paper because humans spent the vast majority of history as hunter-gatherers, but actually living it is a whole other matter.

- People are living longer, thus suicide becomes more prevalent, when people used to live until their forties other causes of death were more prelavent.

That`s highly inaccurate and even if it was true it would have been hundreds of years ago so i dont think it would have any prevalence on recent decades .

Existential terror evoked by an understanding that the world has shifted into a period of fatal decline.

A decade of global societal angst?

Generation K's profound anxiety speaks for all. Most hardships since WW2 were limited.. There's worldwide mass dissatisfaction nowadays. Suicide exists regardless. But when many are stressed, and sentiment is less hospitable, more become hopeless.

2008 = Global Recession, Social Media, Smartphones

Looking at society as a whole, people look to the future, and are now less enthusiastic about their prospects. Things changed and working hard is not enough. Even the better-off are worried. Anxiety creeps. Meanwhile humans profoundly changed the way they communicate. It's instant. Anywhere, anytime and from everyone. Few withstand this bombardment. Attention and patience diminish. Negative events echo, amplified. When society is squeezed, it breaks. As do people.
