The same reason people post when they about to ctb, its less lonely and you now you leave with people thinking about you, you not completely alone.
Its just a different approach even if i understand your point, i wouldnt livestream either, you dont know who can be affected by that.
I just quote myself because it partially responds to you too. I suppose it depends the character of the people. Some are happy just with a post, some want a livestream, was he a member of the forum? that could explain that he didnt have place to share/talk about it too.

Hey illbehave
I imagine it's for the same reasons people do or don't do anything in life.
Everyone is different & has different thoughts, feelings, beliefs & behaviours about everything including suicide.
I personally will be going quietly & alone.

I wonder if it is loneliness, a big FUCK you, or attention? Open to any conversation here. Yes, I am thinking of Ronald McNutt. Horrible thing. Educational, yes, Sad, absolutely. He was drunk? (I could not tell that) and suffered PTSD and was a vet. But also, would like to others regarding live streaming. No judgement.

Some people might be very tied to the circumstances and people that brought them to that point, so they want it to be seen out of spite.

Maybe they feel like they are communicating with an audience, or family, or a way to communicate that they haven't been able to do until this point.Or maybe they are filled with rage and want to hurt and shock.

who really knows what someone is thinking at that point.

I sometimes have been thinking of filming but not livestreaming. Just leaving a video behind for the family where I explain the decision while ctb and I thought it could help science in a way to see what is going on through my ctb process.

To respond to you @illbehave from the other post, i will probably post it before attempting ctb. To give me some courage and feel less lonely, knowing i won't go alone and unnoticed. Some people will think about me even just for a few minutes will I'm leaving.
You actually made me think a lot about it, i never really give much though before :pfff:

I've thought about it but know it's ultimately a poor decision. For me at least. SN isn't a very exciting method to watch either.

Getting people to notice me has always been a struggle and I really don't want to be alone when I die. Ideally, if I livestreamed my ctb, I'd get a few minutes of people listening to me and waiting for me to do something. I never got to be the star of the show in real life so it'd be neat to see how that feels before I die.

It could be useful to some people/association for reference and research purpose though!

I absolutely wouldn't want to livestream my SN CTB attempt! What if some bastards/jerks call the police/authorities? What if I fail the attempt because I was found too early or "God" forbid :ohhhh:... the SN that I drank wasn't potent enough!?

Very interesting. It might not be the type of attention that is good however. People can be very cruel.

I would not live stream me taking a shower, or eating a bowl of cereal, or going to the dentist. I would not live stream any part - big or small - of my life. I have no need to show other people anything or make any statements. I want to die as I have lived: nameless, faceless, alone, unknown to anyone.

I definitely wouldn't want to livestream it for the public, but I've considered doing a video call with someone when I ctb with SN, both for comfort and to help with SN method research. But looking more into the different video call websites and apps, I couldn't find one that doesn't have the ability to allow users to track the other person's location or IP address. It doesn't seem very safe.

I'd give anything to go alone and unnoticed. It has to do with my love of nature and my need to protect my family name.

Regarding the op's question, I think livestreaming is done when you need to shock and/or prove a point. Initially I thought Ronnie McNutt was trying to drive attention to the plight of shell shocked vets. I could be wrong but with livestreamers there's always a tragic backstory of abuse, neglect or both.
People can be very cruel.
Very cruel indeed. I read the comments below Ronnie's video. Most of the idiots were either laughing at him or discussing unrelated topics, like claiming it was all a 'psyop' set up by the CIA to head shrink the masses.

I was talking of a post here, which is anonym, i will never do a livestream for the same reason. I know my death will cause enough trauma to my family

If you're doing it for some greater purpose or cause, sure. If not, well, suicide is incredibly taboo and you would be inviting a shitstorm of media scrutiny and negative attention on anyone tangentially related to it even if they weren't involved and it could just turn into a weird meme that people jerk off to...so I guess if I was going to do anything public in any capacity it would have to be for a very pressing reason.

This is my personal opinion. I don't think suicide should be made a show of. It's a tragedy to begin with and to livestream is in poor taste. I really don't think anything beneficial (even educational purposes) can come from livestreaming. It also gives trolls a chance to come out of the wood work in full force.

The educational part is mostly for people that want to end their life but euthanasia is illegal in their country. People can see the effect, change the dosage of the product or material, for getting a trully peacefull death.

I never see a Livestream, and not interested

I see the point you're making and I agree that's a component as to why people would watch. But I think most people would watch out of morbid curiosity versus wanting to learn. And how much education one would get out of this is anyone's guess. But sure, it can very well be a part as to why someone would watch.

Yes i totally agree lots of people if not all of them would watch it for morbide curiosity, you dont know who can watch it and be traumatise. Worse if its a person that love you. We live in a funny world where almost everything need to be shown to everyone too.

I watched one where a teenage girl who was being abused hung herself. It was very sad but I don't regret watching it or judge her for live-streaming it. I think it depends on the context. It wasn't particularly gory, it was just sad and I think watching it was the right thing to do. Look out for the vulnerable people in your community I guess is what I took away from it.

I was present during one which was a friend and was a private group chat on Discord. They did not succeed.

If I live long enough to get fully prepared for SN, I will be streaming it aswell as recording it for scientific and medical purposes. I plan on fully documenting the procedure from the beginning of the 48 hour regimen to the end. Personally, it will take me a couple more years to get there, so if one day I can no longer bare it before then, the idea is out the window. Im also waiting longer to see if I can eventually find a partner to do it with. Time will tell.

I've fantasised a lot about streaming my suicide. People have judged me my whole life and mistreated me, assumed my life is perfect because I'm 'pretty'. No one ever took their time to get to know me, I have no friends and so many missed opportunities and so much taken from me because of the assumption that I have everything.
No ones ever listened. Streaming will mean I'm heard, it's less about spite or hurting people it's about being seen for once in my life.

But to be honest all of my attempts have been alone and private and when it comes down to it, it's always been this way.

But it's nice to fantasise. Who knows what the future holds.
