Discussion Why do people decide on having kids still?

If parents never regretted their births and always found living worthwhile they assume that their kids would end up feeling the same. Life is thought of conventionally as a gift because even if it is limited in duration during that span of time you get to have experiences that you wouldn't have been able to have otherwise. Of course for some people the net experience ends up being very unpleasant but those for whom it doesn't think that their children won't be any different.

People don't tend to consider alternative viewpoints until they're forced to and a lot of parents never were forced to.

In my case, my parents both had terrible childhoods with alot of abuse and trauma. They just made kids becaus they were bored and didnt think their trauma could affect their kids. My mother said she had her latest child because she was "lonely" after she cheated on my husband and they got divorced. My dad said i should make a baby because it will distract me from my severe depression. Some people are just like NPCS. It's scary.

What if they have a happy life before they die though? Can we be sure their life will be a net negative, in terms of suffering?

Jep, if you look at medieval times, humans are nothing more than animals. Rape, murder, diseases ect could all happen to you in an instance

It's not just religious people unfortunately, here in Czechia, a largely irreligious and secular country, plenty of people deny or marginalize the effects and causes of climate change and are scientifically illiterate. Our current government includes figures like our Minister for Foregin Affairs Petr Macinka who said upon assuming office that "the climate crisis in the Czech Republic is over as of today" and called enviromentalists terrorists. Many old people, who grew up under the state atheist communist regime deny climate change. Not that I disagree, religion is still a huge factor, but just wanted to point this out.

I don't get it either. Regardless of climate change, it's immoral to bring kids into the world anyway because you are literally sentencing them to die without knowing how it will happen or when. It could be cancer, it could be a car crash, it could be them wasting away in a nursing home with dementia when they're 90. It could be anything.

That's what i was thinking.Even if you could gurantee them a happy life,they will still die though unfortunately
