Why do all celebs seem to choose hanging

Probably because you only need a belt and a door which most people have and its the easiest to understand in terms of how to execute it. It's also the most popular method outside of here making up the majority worldwide. Not the most pleasant way to go though.

I totally agree! I thought my choices of methods were limited before coming here. Now at much more peace with my decision!

Same! I actually put back my date so I could research and source SN. My original plan involved otc medication which reduces chances of success (there's a reason I'm still alive almost a decade on from my first CTB attempt) and is excruciatingly painful, even when you aren't dying. Although these threads are full of different methods, I don't think many people will actively seek them out.

Further to both of issyishere's valid points, it's also a lot more likely to be succesfull than other improvised, non-researched methods (prescription meds, cutting wrists etc). So maybe it's not that a disproportionate number of celebrities attempt with hanging, just that a disproportionate number of celebrities succeed with hanging?

Ohhh I've been there with medication failed attempts too.. multiple times. Most times I just ended up throwing up, or woke up hours later :( SN or CO for me (leaning more towards CO if I'm being honest) It just feels nice to have options!
Also @Avicii maybe time frame has something to do with it? If they have a limited time window before someone would find them, it is I presume one of the quicker methods that is also easy to get the 'equipment' for.. plus for that reason, I'd imagine it is one of the more popular methods for people acting on impulse as they'd have the stuff to do it.. that could be wrong, but it's my theory :)

Lots of good answers here, I suppose the most logical answer I can find would be that they are oftenly very busy with their lives and when they are suicidal, they would oftenly go for what is most convenient and accessible for them. I know, not all celebrities are impulsive or oftenly go via hanging, some go for OD, drugs, or other means to CTB. Another possibility is since hanging is one of the most common methods, they are going for that and also not wishing to make a mess (less likely but a possible reason for choosing hanging as their method).

Not western, but theres a major korean celebrity that was reported to have used carbon monoxide, id imagine it has to do with where they are and culture. no clue if its an anomaly or not as i dont know regular methods used there

most celebrities are too busy to sit around and research sites like these. as a matter of fact, i'm sure they never even knew sites like these existed. hanging is a popular method in the media as it is and it happens in many tv shows, movies, etc. it's also fairly simple to do (even though it takes a while to die sometimes).

It probably just boils down to statistics.

The two methods that are most likely to succeed are gunshot to the head and hanging. Most celebrities probably wouldn't want to blow their pretty heads off, so that leaves hanging. For all we know, they may have unsuccessfully attempted other methods before (some sort of overdose probably being a popular one), but they ultimately succeed with hanging. So all the public hears about is the hanging.

That and yeeting off a building are the most sure and accessible means of self terminating when you're overcome with a sudden wave of "I need to die" and haven't had time to prepare anything.

Figure most celebrities have the money and time to see a therapist as often as they want which puts a damper on long term suicidal thoughts but an acute episode can hit and overtake you before you can bring anyone else in on the situation.

And Prince and Tom Petty and George Michael and Amy Winehouse and Keith Emerson and a *lot* of others. Are drug overdoses likely to be reported as accidents, while hanging is harder to "explain away"? Or do we just expect musicians to OD, and pay more attention to hanging? (Keith Emerson didn't OD; he shot himself. Which brings a couple more non-hanging celebrities to mind.)

As most people have already said. It's easily accessible and a commonly known method. Most people don't research and it seems either use hanging or overdose on medications which likely fails and also likely isn't reported to the media. I don't think celebrities are any different in that way.
