It really is a good saying, but fact is most people believe in life after death. I don't, but most people do and have throughout history. Not only that, lots of them believed and still believe in hell. Exactly, people are afraid of what they can't understand. Death is an unknown and the unknown is hard to understand. Many people will naturally fear their own death because they fear the unknown. That isn't the only reason but is a major one.The explanation lies in the fear of the unknown and the fact that people do not easily absorb the idea of nonexistence or emptiness.
On the other hand, it is something exciting to discover one of the greatest mysteries of humanity: death.
