I am from Germany. The biggest difficulty for me is not to give an inappropriate joke answer. Lol.

I thought as a person from UK the answer is so easy because one can simply say Winston Churchill. Though I think he also has some bodies buried if one digs deep enough. But I don't know enough to judge. I am not that familiar with the history of such personalities. I read Mahatma Gandhi was a pedophile. Maybe I should fact check such claims before posting them. Lol.

Some would say Bismarck in Germany (where I live). The best thing about him was that he was not much interested in colonialism. I was a fan of him when I was a conservative. Now not anymore. He was a warmongerer.

Merkel's Russia politics was horrendous. She had no vision she just profited of the reforms of Gerhard Schröder. The reforms made the leftwingparty SPD very unpopular because they were very neoliberal. But Merkel pretended her politics was the reason for the economical boom.

From the chancellors many say Helmut Schmidt (SPD) would have been the best. Scholz is certainly not the best. But from all chancellors of my lifetime he made the reforms which benefited me the most. I am grateful for that. But he is extremely unpopular among Germans because of several reasons. The multicrises internationally also contribute to that fact.

I kind of admire the democratic leaders of the WW2 era who had enough courage and determination to fight the Nazis and the other fascists.

In the US I would probably say FDR. I am a leftwinger.

I live in Europe, but was born in the us. So I just literally threw myself onto their political system. 😂 anyways, I do mean he has been one of the most human politician in the history of mankind.

Bismarck was a monster; but if we are to judge by their impact alone and not by the good- or badness of said impact, I would certainly have to name him the greatest, not just in german, but possibly in all of european history. He was not a warmonger himself - I don't know why you think that (?) - but he did in fact put germany onto a reactionary and militaristic trajectory that it would not have taken otherwise, thus planting the seed of both world wars and arguably the third reich. The fact that many germans still keep a sort of nostalgic memory of him, despite him opposing nearly all workers rights, just goes to show how much of a colossus this guy was.

I'd have to say Rodrigo Duterte. For the record, i don't vote and i try as much as possible to stay out of it.
But i'm speaking in terms of someone whose work regularly took him into the wee hours of the morning, and I actually felt safe passing by the redlight district on foot.

I had a horrible history teacher maybe they talked bullshit. Didn't Bismarck establish the German health care system partly as it nowadays? Moreover he implemented labor legislation laws.

He did that only to prevent the socialist movement from gaining too much momentum; it was the absolute bare minimum. We would still be working 14 hours a day if it went by him...

He also rolled out heavy persecutions and censorship laws against his political enemies (i.e. socialists) and even had a bunch of them executed.

The best President was probably FDR. The best past politicians were probably progressives from the 20th century like Robert M. La Follette, Henry A. Wallace, and Upton Sinclair. The best current politician is likely Bernie Sanders.
