  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

I don't think any "type" of person is unable to ctb if they truly wanted to. It's not a matter of diagnosis or disposition in my head. Circumstances are the only thing that could -mostly- prevent someone who was dead set on ctb. Being immobile or being under 24/7 supervision (state mental hospitals, prisons) would make it quite difficult. Even then, people succeed. I think the only "type" of person who will be unable to ctb even if they wanted to is a person with some sliver of hope. It's a powerful thing, and I'm grateful for that.

I do believe that ctb is very difficult, as even know we want to die, we all have a powerful survival instinct. It is not easy to leave all the pain behind. It is hard to answer the question, as I believe that if someone is desperate enough it is likely they will find a way, but in my case, I want to die, in fact I have never wanted to exist but yet I am held here because of the lack of peaceful and reliable way to exit and the fear of failure.

Maybe there are many people living miserable lives, suffering so much, but are trapped in this world because it is so hard to leave. We live in a world where our right to die is not respected after all. We all deserve the option of a peaceful exit at a time of our own choosing.

"Never", meaning, the survival instincts will be too much to overcome?

Some people in highly-controlled environments (prisons, hospitals - as previously mentioned), or possibly some highly abusive relationships with enough control over the victim to eliminate CTB as an option. Those with severe physical disabilities leaving them largely immobilized would be barred from all but euthanasia and assisted suicide. Those with severe brain damage or intellectual disabilities may be similarly incapable of acting independently to take their lives. Outside of these practical categories, though, I'd argue that suicide always remains an option for everyone, however anxious, etc they may be.

I can't believe how true this is. It's to the point where I have to fight my own survival instinct and suffer more pain and agony just to leave, just to reach my peace.
I'd do anything for that peaceful death but that is just a dream and 'someday the dream will end.'
Death is the ultimate liberation.
Two quotes in one geez guess I'll play it again today.

There are probably a lot of severely depressed people out there who believe they can't kill themselves out of fear of going to hell.

This was me 5 years ago, and it was the most soul-crushing feeling.

Lack of energy and motivation is huge. That's why I've been told that a diagnosis of bipolar depression can result in more likely to actually commit suicide than unipolar depression because of the chance of bipolar mixed episodes. Bipolar mixed episodes include depression plus energy plus lack of impulse control which equals greater chance of actually acting on suicidal thoughts than unipolar major depression which more likely includes depression plus lethargy
