I wish I could do it at home, but most likely my conscience will not immediately disappear causing the last thing I see is to see my family cry.

I would love to get a nice hotel suite for one night but the cleaning fee is stopping me. I could try a timed text to hopefully prevent hotel staff from going up first when I didn't check out.
In your circumstance I would go with the car because it seems the least damaging to your wife. Sorry about your situation. I'm troubled about where to do it too.

Cleaning fee? Is your method messy?

No, but it doesn't actually matter from the research I did. You could lay down a lot of plastic for insurance and use poison for example. Even if you didn't vomit and were discovered within hours they strip the room. So your family/estate/savings will be on the hook with an exorbitant bill.

It depends of the method obviously, but preferably home. Chances to be found before death will be reduced.

The luck to have your own place I guess...

Out of the options listed, I would say hotel. I prefer the sound of of ctb in an isolated nature location, but hotel is second to that. I think it may cause more trauma for the family members left behind if they were the one to find you.

Hotel. I don't want to do it at home. I don't want to devalue it if my family decides to sell it in the future one day. I also don't want to traumatize them in that way either. A nice big hotel chain has the resources and money to clean up after as well

Hotel. They know how to deal with with this kind of stuff. I'd prefer somewhere else but a hotel is the most realistic

If I could afford it, I would feel comfortable doing it in a hotel. Putting the "do not disturb" placard on the door means I won't be bothered, but after I fail to check out they'll find me relatively quick.

I debated on booking a cheap motel for a night, but hearing about the cleaning bill is throwing me off. Around how much would it be?? I don't want my family to have to pay an outrageous amount for that.

Cheap motel would be less than luxury suite in a fancy place but no way to tell. The hotel hires professional cleaners and also chooses if they want to just replace the mattress and bed linens for example or replace the carpet, all the furniture, repaint the place. The neater the method and sooner the discovery the more likely the cost will be lower but no way to know for sure.

I don't understand how there are legal grounds to get other people (that happen to be family) to pay for the hotel's cleaning fees. Seems absurd if the CTBer is over 18.

Yeah is that a thing? I thought hotels usually cover the costs of the clean up. I was planning to leave a big tip anyway, so they better

The family didn't sign any contract and they're not put in jail if someone in their family commits murder or whatever. I have no idea where people get this idea from. And how do you decide which family member pays the cost? Parents? Siblings? Grandmother?

Had the same concerns - exactly the same, but with the house, I live in a cul de sac and have exceptionally nosey neighbours. I booked a hotel and then cancelled it as they take a damage deposit and I did not want them wiping out my account when I want the money to go to my family. Now thinking of a forest/woodland. Not ideal. But I cannot think of anywhere else. Cannot do it in my car as I intend to give my car to my brother.

Yeah doesn't make sense to me. I've read that hotels usually have a service or team they pay to do the clean up

I remember reading detailed accounts when I was researching hotel suicides in depth a while back. It's similar to how various agencies could come after your family for your debts or unpaid bills. They might not necessarily pay up in the end but I don't want them to have the trouble. And they could just clean out my savings account directly. The thought of all the effort of me slaving away at garbage jobs getting snatched by some mega rich hotel instead of going to my dad is revolting.

They use suicides as an opportunity to unnecessarily thoroughly refurbish their rooms at someone else's expense? I bet that's just an American thing

None of the above. Personally, I plan to do it somewhere outside where I'm unlikely to be disturbed. There are several remote spots and empty lots near where I live thankfully.
