Okay so I'm a firm believer that anyone under the age of 18 should not be here. Period. If the law says you're an adult we should be allowed here and have freedom of speech. This doesn't surprise me at all though gotta protect gov property
this is irrelevant given we already don't host any methods here *but* there's a super fine line between who can rationally make informed decisions and who can't. an adult in a druken state should prolly not view the method posts. okay, enough people already accidentally commit suicide when drunk, and, what a joke it is to put "accidentally" next to "suicide". those were truly intended. despite being true-heartedly regretted. so adulthood means nothing. while you really can't say a 16 y/o have no capacity to understand suicidality and suicide, and make rational decisions. I was that kid. and the one thing I never changed my mind about, is wishing I was successful then. at least not believe sniffing glue would kill me. smh.
having a place to ask about plans/methods is effective *harm reduction*.
you don't automatically get "mature" on your eighteenth birthday. or 21st. just look at all the kids who screwed themselves *on* their 21st birthday party! (shit, I'm under 21.) if I were a neuroscientist (I majored in neuro), I'd put alcohol access on 25. except I won't. cuz 25 means nothing either, and people would do anything illegal if they truly have a need for it. it's like drugs. and the irony is the academia still makes the distinction between "you're middle-class White and you doctor-shopped your oxys", to "you didn't contribute to taxes/GDP cuz you score from people who'd otherwise be considered unemployed".
right? super thin line. you can't really tell. you can only expect people to have all the safety measures in place, made possible through community support, and trust they know what they're doing. I actually have wanted to say something about one SS rule, "no persons with intellectual disability permitted here". that's real weird IMO. when people with ID compete in paralympics, but are seen as children here.
I have a favorite quote from Heroin Helper, "all people are children when it comes to heroin". that's to sum up the mainstream point of view. and I would not hesitate to say, all people are children when it comes to suicide. to mirror that on format *and* on intention. all we did is infantalize ourselves. and I can safely say that no 5 y/o kids will enjoy this site anyways.
