I never knew what people meant by this until one day I actually made eye contact with myself in the mirror and holy shit, it was like all the life was gone. The light was totally out. It was about 3 years into my depression. It's the eyes that really give away how depressed you are, even if you can fake everything else that vacant stare tells the story. If I become not depressed in the future I hope that blank stare goes away.

I had it a couple years ago, for a few months. I think it meant: I had nothing to care about, that all my training was for nothing

I recovered it a few days before I was going to ctb, because the universe dropped something... peculiarly appropriate on my lap. Hopefully the same will happen for you

I honestly don't know what "dead eyes" look like to people. The pictures you find when googling it look like normal eyes to me. A bit tired maybe.

I'm not sure but last summer, my dad said that I looked "sullen" and he told me to "cheer up"

I think it's basically non expressive eyes. People make micro expressions with their eyes without realizing and it's like the eyes become totally frozen in a blank look when they're "dead."

During the pandemic. Stuck in a house with people I learned to hate and a partner who was more shitty to me than normal. I was kinda done then, definitely done now

Not dead eyes, but I posted this in another thread about when I remember my resting face becoming a frown. I would've been 19 or 20:

I went to this counselor in undergrad, not as therapy per-se, but it was someone you went to at least once a semester to review your course selection and progress, and you could schedule additional visits with them. I would go see him an extra time once a semester or so just to vent and talk. One visit, I was in there, letting him know I was really struggling with the concept of work and job searching, and that I was tired and really thinking negatively about having to work forever, and he said "Derp, you sound bitter today." That's stuck with me. Bitter. Around then I remember the distinct realization that my resting face was not a smile or even neutral, but a frown. I felt it in my muscles, I guess.

Interesting.
I've never been told that I have dead eyes (probably because I don't look into people's eyes), but I've been told that I have an "emotionless voice".

My dad tells me that my school portraits began to change after third grade, that I lost the light in my eyes, my mirth. So probably around then.

I don't really know because nobody has commented on my eyes but I've looked metaphorically dead ever since I started going to school. I've always been miserable

Thanks for saying that. I was never mad at him though. He was right, and I'm glad a neutral voice told me 'hey, you are definitely talking and acting differently than you used to.'

No prob. I mean he can call you out on something, but damn that was shitty and tactless. Distasteful and unprofessional.

No problem. That would've stuck with me too... Dick. He could've said the same thing, got the same point across, if only he tweaked some of those words and his tone. Then it would've gave you notice of his perception, but in an acceptable casual way. That was unprofessional and tactless.
