EDIT: Sorry that this so long, I'm just in a chatty mood, and this was fun to put together.
Most of my favorite movies are my favorites because of the impact they had on me growing up as a kid in the 80s. It was a magical time, at least while looking back at it through my Rose-Colored Glasses of +5 Nostalgia.
Hellraiser (1987) Kickstarted my love of horror movies. Yes, I was six when I watched it. Yes, I was traumatized. No, I don't have any regrets.
The Princess Bride (1987) piqued my sense of wonder and imagination as a little nerdling obsessed with Dungeons and Dragons and Fantasy in general.
Labyrinth (1986) Same reasons as above. And David Bowie. And David Bowie's magnificent codpiece of magnificence. Look up ''Magic Dance'' on YT and be reminded of the babe. The babe with the power...
Romeo + Juliet (1996) Yeah I'm a big ol' stupid romantic at heart, and a huge fan of Shakespeare, and when I saw this movie my junior year of high school on a field trip, I absolutely fell in love with it. John Leguizamo freaking killed it as Tibalt. Same for Harold Perrineau as Mercutio,. And Peter Postlethwaite as...just watch the movie, you'll see.
Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975) I was 22 (2003) when I first watched this glorious movie while high off my ass. I have since introduced several ''virgins'' to RHPS in the same way. Let your freak flag fly and let's do the Time Warp!
Pulp Fiction (1994) Do I really need to explain this one?
Event Horizon (1997) One of my favorite Sci-Fi and Horror movies. As someone pretty jaded toward horror movies after growing up watching them, this one surprisingly scared the crap out of me.
Tucker & Dale VS. Evil (2010) A comedy with the facade of a horror movie, I love everything about it. Damn college kid just jumped in the woodchipper!
The Cabin in the Woods (2011) Another comedy/kinda-horror movie that I have probably watched twenty times by now. Freaking hilarious deconstruction of the horror movie genre.
Inside Out (2015) Beautiful, amazing movie. Makes me cry every single time I watch it. Bing Bong!
Honorable mentions: The Craft (1996), Practical Magic (1998), Hocus Pocus (1993), and Halloweentown (1998) I was going through a weird time in my life during ages 19-21, looking for a religion that I could believe and be happy to practice, and I fell in love with Wicca. I immersed myself into reading and watching whatever I could find that included Wicca or witchcraft whether serious or silly (Yes, I have seen every episode of Buffy at least five times, and I know every word to Once More With Feeling...). Although I ultimately didn't form a belief in Wicca (Or any religion for that matter), I still find it fascinating and these movies hold a special place in my weird little heart.
